Yes my dear confused Californians. You can buy this, you can eat this, despite the low, low prices it is top quality. Back in Germany ALDI has been around since the 1950's and have won millions over with no-brand quality. Yet, this is certainly not the Aldi of my youth. Not a single shipping pallet in sight. (They unceremoniously dump them right in the stores in Europe). Not bags of exploded flour or dried up jam on the floor that makes it look like a crime scene. Instead a place as spic-and-span as it gets, crawling with staff that is extremely well groomed and trained, friendly, helpful and squared away. Stunning. Lots of fresh, good produce, dairy and some meats. Item selection is a bit-and-miss. Gorgeous, dirt-cheap beets and peppers sit next to sad tomatoes. And why do they have Lychies, but no leeks or green onions? Yet the wine and chocolate departments and sandwich-items would look really good in a Whole Foods. Yet, Californians are still a bit confused. Glass lids on freezer bins (for energy savings) confounded more than one fellow shopper, and the concept of a deposit for your cart seems entirely alien to them. Funnily carts dropped in remote areas become nuclei for others to leave theirs in the same spot, aggregating them in areas where employees will have a hard time to corral the cart-train back to the story. Me thinks this will not fly in CA. As opposed to the One-Euro-Coin needed in Germany ($1.20), a quarter seems to be too little money for Angelenos to care. Even in...
Read moreI live about 10 min away from it is very nice. I love that they require you to put a quarter in the shopping cart and then you receive it back when you return it or if you’re lucky another customer gives you a quarter for it. They have great deals and a variety of grocery products at steals every now and then you will get brand names. The eggs are sometime 79 cents and the lactose milk is sometimes 2$ cheaper then other places. However stay away from the sushi (big no no) they have what they call aldi finds and if they don’t sell by a certain time they will lower the price. The cashiers do remember consistent customers I had the misfortune of loosing my wallet and went to ask them for help and the manager was nice enough to look through the security footage no luck though I had actually dropped it next door at the michaels!the mixer I purchased at their Gardena location but saw one here in the past week a couple of bucks cheaper the mat was about 2$ after the...
Read moreI love Aldi's. I mostly buy various bags of nuts for a good price. Use to be a "great" price but they recently went up. Not too much but still an increase. I love Butter Pecan Ice Cream. These guy have the 1.5 quart size for just over $2... GREAT value. Most places charge $4.99 or more. I use to buy their canned goods. The price was ridiculously low. So, I stocked up two or three times a months. Once, in between times, I shopped another store, only to find the size at Aldi was very small. That's why the price was so much lower. Since, I've stopped buying canned goods, but still go a couple times a month for my Butter Pecan and Bagged Nuts. Overall, a great little stop for good-valued product. Lots of parking... clean inside and out. You must take a quarter with you, to put into the push cart. The beautify is, you get it back after you put cart back where is came from... as I...
