Congratulations on the 75th anniversary of the King County Library System (KCLS). I watched the KCLS staff members celebrate their 75th anniversary and they sure know how to have a good time. Who said librarians are boring?
The staff at the Issaquah library are superb and very helpful. My kids and I have always found the library a place of refuge.
What many people do not realized is that the KCLS is the busiest library network in the entire U..S., with over 22 million items in circulation, has 48 branches, and it's headquartered in Issaquah. What many people may also not know is the KCLS has mobile services: TechLab and Library2Go. TechLab allows KCLS staff to come to a community in King County to provide computer training or classes; KCLS staff members can also provide the availability of resources in communities where there are no library facilities and resources through its Library2Go program.
I am hoping the King County government will remain loyal as it has always been, to continue its funding and to always keep in their plans to expand its resources through better services and facilities, such as, technology improvement and better educational audio-visual equipment. Children in our community deserve it, and it starts with better educational resources. Currently, libraries are funded 50 cents per $1000 of the assessed value of our property, a levy well spent. The KCLS is one of the most important recipients of our property taxes.
Studies by UW also show that libraries provide a great haven for young members of our communities to seek refuge and growth in times when other resources are not readily available. Libraries provide a calming effect that rid us of the menaces that may afflict the very nature of our...
Read moreIt is with great pain that I had to stop using the king county library system. As a 10 year member of the library I always enjoyed reading books and just walking around the library. Since I was a child I have enjoyed books. Today as I was checking a book out the system flagged my card. I was asked for an id. As I provided my Washington State driver's license the system kept saying my address wasn't valid. Since my address was valid to the department of licensing is a valid address. Their system just made a mistake. But they denied a bypass...
Read moreIt's a good place. I go here all the time. Most of the librarians don't seem too smart, but they aren't bad people and leave you alone so you can concentrate on what you are doing. Good place to read a book or work on your computer. I see people coming here to tutor other people/students all the time. So this is a great place to take someone you are teaching.
My only complaint is that most of the librarians seem like the type who go into the back room and talk next to the water cooler. But that's just my point of view and is kind...
