If you are tempted to go in, RUN away.
It is the worst customer service I have ever had. This place deserves a zero star if possible.
I thought I could come here as my Go-To place and I prefer to go to Dual Spice and trek to the East village instead.
This review is from the perspective of a non-Indian who has studied Ayurvedic cooking and loves shopping for herbs and spices as primary prevention.
The good: Place has whole sale type sizes for your legumes and spices It is well spaced and varied
The bad: Many things don't have prices on them but that's todays norm
The very ugly: In my years being a customer, I have never seen this level of deplorable customer service. I think there will be better customer service in hell than here.
So I had about $100 worth of items in my basket and it was mostly spices and bottles . There was no one else after me and the place was rather empty. I went to the cashier and according to the receipt, her name is ABC. I see that she rings everything and I just came out from hand procedure so I had a bandage on my hand, when I asked her if she could help me pack my bag, she gave me the most evil look and said that it is not part of her job description and she will still do it and literally threw everything including bottles and everything in my bag with anger and contempt. I just wanted to get out of there and never go back.
Maybe other people have better services and with the name of cash and carry maybe that's the attitude. I didn't notice the name of the place until I started doing the review.
I don't like to give one or zero stars if possible to a place however based on the quality of the service and that I had a nicer cashier at the nearby Dollar General store I wish I never even have...
Read moreApna Bazar Cash & Carry is a vibrant and well-stocked South Asian grocery store that caters to a diverse clientele seeking authentic Indian, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi products. It offers a wide variety of items ranging from fresh produce, pantry essentials, and spices to frozen goods, snacks, and ready-to-eat meals. Their aisles are neatly organized, making it easy to locate specific items, whether you’re looking for basmati rice, masalas, lentils, or hard-to-find specialty ingredients.
One of the store’s standout features is the availability of fresh produce, including vegetables and herbs commonly used in South Asian cuisine, like okra, bitter gourd, and curry leaves. Their meat section is also commendable, offering halal options for customers who prioritize dietary requirements. Additionally, they stock a good selection of Indian sweets, bakery items, and dairy products like paneer and ghee.
Apna Bazar also excels in offering imported snacks and beverages, such as Lays’ Indian flavors and Thums Up soda, which evoke a sense of nostalgia for many shoppers. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to assist with questions or recommendations.
While their pricing is generally competitive, certain specialty items can be slightly higher than average. The store is often busy during weekends, so it’s best to plan accordingly.
Overall, Apna Bazar Cash & Carry provides an authentic shopping experience, making it a go-to destination for anyone looking to explore or reconnect with the flavors and ingredients of South...
Read moreApna Bazaar is probably the best Indian grocery or convenience store on the Indian street in Journal square area. They offer all kinds of items, including fresh produce, all kinds of Indian pantry items, Indian snacks and also wide variety of items at the frozen aisle. The pricing of most items is pretty reasonable, place is kept decently clean and can get crowded during weekends or late evenings.
I regularly attend this store with my roommates to do our groceries especially for the freshness and choice of vegetables they offer, which is much better than what we observed at Patel. However the quality of few of the items such as ground spice powders, pulses and lentils isn't so great. There have been instances when I found stones in Rajma (Kidney bean) or the color of Dhaniya (Corriander) powder is too different from a packet of the same next to it. The quality and consistency of such products is often below average. I would recommend people to buy branded items instead.
During late evenings or weekends, when the shop is too crowded, it becomes difficult to navigate around the store with your trolleys and you may often have to wait for a couple of minutes for the trolleys, until someone comes and returns one outside the store.
Overall, given the choice of Indian stores in the area, its one of the better ones. Highly recommended for the fresh produce, but be mindful of the quality of packed products like...
