The PATH Train runs very frequent in rush hours and I found that it's very convenient. As a disabled rider, I have always found the conductors and personnel to be helpful. The trains are usually very clean and maintained. However, PATH does have its share of problems. In non-rush hours trains run infrequently, and this makes for very crowded trains. On weekends, holidays, and nights, if you need to use the 33rd Street line everything has to go through Hoboken, adding time to your commute, and making trains even more crowded. They are always having problems with signals, and if you are on the Newark Train and they have to raise the bridge between Harrison and Journal Square Stations, it can take forever. Why in the 21st century you still need draw bridges is beyond me. That bridge should have long been rebuilt ages ago. All of the New Jersey Stations have elevators, but in New York only two stations are equipped with elevators. This can make it difficult being a disabled rider. Also, the elevators at Newark Penn Station are operated by New Jersey Transit, so when they are out, PATH doesn't seem to care about announcing that because as they say, "we don't maintain those elevators." But, they should care because their disabled riders need to use those elevators in order to enter and exit the system. And lastly, they claim that only folding bikes are allowed on the Trains in rush hours, but I frequently see non-folding bikes and scooters being brought on the trains and elevators during these times. Never see the Port Authority Police or PATH personnel do anything...
Read moreI've seen people SMOKING on platforms and inside the trains (I have videos of it), people EATING even though it is prohibited; there is NOT enough security doing patrols, the train schedule is the WORST, during rush hours there is no problems ( which make me feel that the service only benefits some users, people who work in the morning shifts) but after 9 pm the trains are constantly disrupted with delays; you name it, they don't care if you worked on the second or third shift and if you are tired, the only thing you want is to go home as soon as possible to get a decent nights rest. The weekend schedule is another problem sometime I have to wait more than half hour for the next train and it gets SO CROWDED that it makes for an unpleasant travel.... all the time. This train is relatively "NEW" and it has so many things to be fixed for instance in winter times it ALWAYS has DELAYS due to frozen rail tracks that disable the light signals..... I have no choice but deal with the inconvenience of the delays IT IS THE ONLY "fast?" mass transit option we have. THE GOVERNMENT should invest in making a PEDESTRIAN/BIKE BRIDGE TO GO TO NYC ..... but they won't do it because they will...
Read moreThe trains are very clean and fast, new looking. The fare is $3 as oppose to the Subway which is still $2.90. it's much smaller than the Subway stations and only a few station. The are some stores outside when you go out to the street after going up the long steep escalators. There's a statue of a baseball player and the roads are all winding and easy to get lost if you're not from the area. After the PATH station there's nothing much for you except car services usually I see people walking or taking their own cars back into the areas away from the station. It's a nice station the escalators take you out to the street and there you see a plaza with a statue of a baseball player. There are a lot of people going up and down out and in of the station. It's a very busy PATH...
