It’s unfortunate that this review is necessary. I was told that we would receive a survey where our comments would go directly to the innkeeper. Since we never received that survey, there is no choice but to leave this public review and hope someone in charge sees it. My wife and I have been going to the Inn at Jim Thorpe for years. We recently had a weekend getaway to celebrate a birthday, and stayed at the inn’s main building. In the middle of the night when we were asleep, we were both woken by sounds and voices in the hallway outside our door, followed by someone messing with our door, followed by the door being flung open with 2 men standing in the doorway. One of them started entering the room. Imagine waking up to this from a sound sleep (I thought we were being robbed). We started screaming at them to get out of the room, I started trying to figure out what we could use as a weapon to defend ourselves. Person #1 says to Person #2 “are you sure this is your room?”. After a few moments they closed the door and left. I’m skipping a lot of details to try to keep this brief. I went to the front desk and asked the attendant if he is the person that unlocked our door. He said yes, said that the other person came up to him, was slurring his words, and he thought he said he was in room ###. Obviously the desk attendant did nothing to verify the mumbled words of a drunk person, he simply escorted him to our room and unlocked the door. He never apologized to us. I stated I wanted to file a complaint, he said there was no manager on duty, but she would be arriving in the morning. Suffice to say that sleep was lacking the rest of the night. Said manager did not show up for duty the next day. I had to repeatedly insist that she call me, and was repeatedly told that likely would not happen. When she finally did call, there seemed to be no sympathy to the situation or concern about the actions of the employee. This situation could have escalated horribly in so many ways and no one seemed to care. It’s only when I expressed those concerns that she “confided” that this employee should have been fired a while ago but unfortunately they can’t find anyone else to replace him. If the minimum you expect from a hotel is a safe place to get a good night’s sleep, if the manager’s thoughts express the standards that are set for employees of this establishment, if there is no concern about a ruined vacation (if you don’t sleep it’s hard to enjoy the rest of the weekend plans) and no acknowledgement of the violent scenarios this could have led to, think twice before staying here. I'd advise you to bolt the door, but their rooms are not equipped with any such capability.
