As beginners in our early to mid-50s, my wife and I embarked on a rock climbing adventure with Mojave Guides at Joshua Tree National Park, guided by the skilled and supportive Andrew and his apprentice, Emory. Despite previous climbing experiences in Wisconsin and a gym, my fear of heights was a significant hurdle. Andrew, a consummate professional, alleviated our anxieties with his exceptional communication and tailored approach.
From the outset, Andrew impressed us with his dedication, calling the night before to ensure a seamless experience. On the day, he astutely chose a sunlit, wind-sheltered location, perfectly aligning with our abilities and comfort. His expertise shone through as he patiently answered all our queries about climbing gear and safety protocols. Their inclusiveness extended to curious passersby, inviting an elderly couple to observe our lesson, fostering a welcoming and communal atmosphere.
The gear provision by Mojave Guides was comprehensive, including helmets, climbing shoes, ropes, cams, nuts, belay devices, and even snack bars. This attention to detail allowed us to focus solely on the experience. Emory, an apprentice guide, was equally impressive, adeptly handling social media documentation, demonstrating techniques, and offering moral support.
For someone battling a fear of heights, Andrew's guidance was transformative, enabling me to reach heights beyond my imagination. The exhilaration and fear intertwined, leaving me trembling with a sense of achievement. My wife shared a similar experience, and we both were buzzing with excitement post-climbing.
Witnessing Andrew and Emory effortlessly ascend, almost floating up the route, contrasted sharply with our own intense, life-dependent efforts, highlighting their profound expertise.
In conclusion, our experience with Mojave Guides was nothing short of extraordinary. As first-timers hiring professional guides, we couldn't have asked for a better introduction to guided climbing. Andrew and Emory's professionalism, expertise, and supportive nature not only helped us conquer our fears but also provided us with a peak life experience we will cherish forever.
Highly recommended for anyone looking to explore rock climbing, regardless of skill...
Read moreI was connected with Mojave Guides through a climbing buddy of mine that knew the owner (Seth) personally. I was with a group of 6 friends, with varying levels of experience climbing outdoors. We spent two full days with Seth and his guides (Chris and Nate I think) and the experience with Mojave was fantastic from start to finish. Several things that made Mojave stand out: 1.) Flexibility: scheduling the time and day for our climbs was easy and straightforward, we could come out as early or late as we wanted and climb any areas of the park - hassle free and no pressure! 2.) Communication: Seth and I chatted via email for months leading up to the trip - once there we talked mostly via text and it made planning everything very straightforward and transparent. Also they take VenMo! which made payment a breeze. 3.) Knowledgeable: some of our group wanted to learn gear placement and anchor building, while others just wanted to climb as much as possible - Mojave did a great job of making time for all of the varying levels of interest and ability and we felt extremely safe the entire time. 4.) Personal touches: Seth knew we were planning days out unguided along with guided days; he came prepared with advice on climbs and areas of the park that we could handle on our own, which saved us a ton of time. He also gave us an awesome homemade guide with suggestions on places to visit, eat and explore during our stay. Lastly, Seth and his guides are just great people - they obviously enjoy what they do and strive to create a unique and fun experience for their customers. Cannot recommend...
Read moreFrom Sue Whitehouse, Emma and Heather Eukitis: Want to hear about Mojave Guides? How much time do you have? From Maine, we chose Mojave Guides to guide our climbing trip in Joshua Tree because Joshua Tree is their very own playground in their very own backyard. Also, and importantly, we spoke with other professional guides who had worked with Mojave Guides for years and gave them a very high recommendation. One guide we spoke with told us, “Mojave Guides not only meets the required standards, they exceed them!” They are so right! Emery, our guide, knows every inch of Joshua Tree and picked out the best routes suited to our climbing level- for fun, for learning, for challenge, for . . . ta-da! Enthusiasm is one of Emery’s best qualities, and it is contagious! He engages in ways that immediately build trust and confidence. He infuses safety awareness. He instructs in a manner that is encouraging and supportive. He cheers for you with his signature genuine enthusiasm and brings out your best! All of these attributes result in a superlative climbing guide, but it is his warmth, his kindness, his generous spirit, and his unassuming personality that reveal his fine character. We have found not only a great guide but, we hope, a new friend. Packing up our smiles, our new memories, and our slightly sore muscles and heading home to Maine. Can’t wait to book our next climbing trip with Mojave...
