I was lured into this restaurant, thinking it had a charming local vibe. I decided to order a chicken Caesar salad to go. Although it took half an hour to prepare, I assumed it was because they were grilling the chicken fresh in their one-chef kitchen. I didn't worry too much about the wait.
After driving for about an hour and a half into Joshua Tree, we decided to stop and have our lunch. To my disgust, when I opened the salad, it was absolutely repulsive. More than half of the lettuce was black and slimy, and there was no trace of chicken whatsoever. What a complete disregard for customers and health violation.
The restaurant should be aware that to-go orders are often intended for guests entering the park, where no food is available. So at that point, I had nothing to eat. I promptly emailed the restaurant, including pictures of the unacceptable salad, expecting to receive a refund since we couldn't return to the park's entry point. Unfortunately, I received no response from them.

Happened upon this place while heading back from an Airbnb weekend. If you're anywhere near Joshua Tree, run (don't walk!) to Country Kitchen! The food here is next level. Chef Matt is a total genius, every week he creates the most delicious and creative specials that always hit the spot.
This week’s meatloaf sandwich special? OH MY GOODNESS!!! It’s absolutely incredible, hearty, flavorful, and just the ultimate comfort food.
They also have tons of vegan options and even some keto swaps, which I really appreciate. My personal favorite keto hack? I swap the potatoes for grilled tomatoes loaded with bacon, cheese, and green onions. It’s insanely delicious and totally satisfying!
And let me just say, the entire team at Country Kitchen is the BEST. You always feel like family when you walk in. Shoutout to Tracy and Lisa for always being so warm, friendly, and on top of everything.
