What a pathetic excuse for closing most of the museum, hole in the floor 3 meters from where people need to access the doors between the rooms. So instead of just fencing the hole area off you close most of the museum🤦🏻♂️. No logical reasoning whatsoever. We passed the museum last night & drove back today to visit, paying for parking etc. What a waste of time and money. There are no signs outside saying closed, you only find out when you are about to leave the first room. Really cheesed off with this shambles as I’ve come a long way to see these railway exhibits. Then there’s the lies outside about the “world famous Conch train” it’s not world famous, I’ve not heard of it. It’s only tourist famous!
The irony is the very good scale model of Dry Turtugas we visited the day before. We were able to walk around that with 3 story floors you could fall off of as there were no barriers of any sort there, trip hazards galore & here a small hole in a floor shuts 66% of a museum, mind blowing🤯
Upon leaving we stopped off in Baskin Robbins and got more information in there from a picture above their entrance than I did...
Read moreIF YOU’RE PLANNING ON DOING THE AQUARIUM AND SHIPWRECK MUSEUM, THIS WILL BE FREEEEEEEEE! Ok, sorry but no one mentioned this and I ended up going here first and paying 40$ only to find out later that it’s free if you buy both the package deal for aquarium and ship wreck. The woman who sold us the tickets at the aquarium didn’t even offer a refund but I accidentally pulled out the wrong receipt at the ship wreck museum and Mary (she’s incredible) called the office and got them to refund the cost for us. I’ll be sure to leave her an amazing review in the ship wreck site. Anyway!!! This tour is short and sweet but really gives you a feel for the difficulties in getting the keys populated. We have a far greater respect for the folks that risked their lives to make this the island of our dreams. I think you should really check it out if you do the freebie mentioned above. If you don’t,...
Read moreThis museum is wonderful! We were touring Key West and decided to take kids (11 and 7 to this museum since they have interactive displays for kids. The cost was $10 adults and $5 for kids. We all enjoyed it and Mr. Harry gave a very informative brief history of Key West, sunken treasure, and Mr. Flagler’s plan and construction of railroad from Miami to Key West.
The films were also very informative. I had no idea that this history existed. We learned how Key West got its name and so much more.
Didn’t know that Mr. Flagler was the brains of standard oil. I also didn’t know he built the Breakers in Palm Beach. I had a chance to tour this past week but didn’t stop. How unfortunate.
I have posted a few photos of the remaining railroad. One area they have restored and used for pedestrians to walk. Took photos while driving back.
I highly recommend visiting this museum if...
