My husband and I are from PA. We were walking in the Harbor two days ago to find Kermits to get Keylime pie. In our travels we Stumbled upon water front brewery. It was in the afternoon on the hostess was a Spanish girl. We asked her if we could make Reservations. She said no you cannot make reservations it is first come first serve. We said that’s OK we will still come back this evening. We went back that night. When we asked to sit down in the empty restaurant the hostess who was an island or with a dark skin said you will have to wait about 20 minutes to get a table. We told her that the restaurant was relatively empty. She showed us a sheet of people who had made reservations. She was not a nice person the way she spoke to us. We told her that we were told that morning that we were not allowed to make a reservation. According to her sheet plenty of people had made reservations. We told her we would go to the bar as directed and they did have an excellent happy hour. Due to this hostesses awful attitude my husband and I decided to just eat dinner at the bar. Our server at the bar Jessica was so sweet, personable, and such a pleasure to deal with. We both had excellent salads and sandwiches. It was a pleasure to deal with the former New Yorker who now resides in Key West meaning Jessica. We talked to some locals at the bar and we had a great evening. It is very sad that this restaurant has their signals crossed with making reservations or not being able to make reservations. It is also a shame when you have such delicious food and excellent help at the bar that you would hire two hostesses who don’t know which end is up. I am so glad we sat at the bar. My phone finally beat 45 minutes later and my husband let the hostess have it. Other than the two hostesses this is a fabulous place. My recommendation to you is if you can just sit at the bar and ask...
Read moreWe were sat right away, but it was quite a while before a server came to take a drink and appetizer order. They had 5 total tables occupied, so this made no sense to wait over 15 minutes. We ordered pretzels and shrimp and conch ceviche. Pretzels had a very off tasting cheese and the pretzels were very greasy. The ceviche was great! We ordered the BBQ pork sandwich (good), roast beef and grilled cheese sandwich (beef was very dry even with extra au jus), club sandwich (hard to mess this up) and conch chowder. The conch chowder was awful. It was described as spicy and it was pretty much bland tomato vegetable soup. If there was conch I sure didn’t see it or taste it! As I finished my chowder, the manager came by to ask us if everything was ok. I said my conch was “meh” and he asked if it was too spicy. I told him it wasn’t spicy at all and that for a chowder it had no chunks of conch. The manager then told me the conch is finely chopped for the chowder. Then he tells me he’s not a fan of the chowder either and walked away. The server didn’t ask us until the end of our meal how our food was. Told her the chowder was awful. We then asked our server if the guy who asked us about our meal was the manager and she said yes. We told her that we told him about the chowder, and what his response was. She was apologetic and offered to ask the manager to comp it. I told her no because I ate it, albeit begrudgingly, and the manager had his chance to make it right and chose to walk away. He could have cared less. Next visit to Key West will not include a stop at this restaurant again. ...
Read moreMake sure you don't pay with Amex, they don't take it, they also don't tell you until you pull it out to pay that they don't take it. Long story short , my husband had to run back to our hotel room 3/4 mile away to get a different card. Roxy wanted to be condescending by bringing multiple triangular table top flyers and surrounding me with them and point it out on a black menu after I asked for the check... like it's my fault they are one of the only bars/ restaurants in America who don't take American Express. Also, which I thought was hilarious, the waitress (Roxy) proceeded to say "a lot of places in the Virgin Islands don't take American Express". Um... ok... thanks. I'm not in the Virgin Islands, and I'm not going there, not on a cruise. Why would you bring that up? The bartender at Conch Republic laughed when I told her this and said literally every legit restaurant on this island takes America Express. Who knew a "brewery" didn't. Why not just state it when the customer sits down? Most people who are on cruise only take a few cards with them in port: customers who come from a hotel will probably only havea few cards. After 3 days, this is the only legit restaurant / bar on the island that doesn't take Amex. A coconut dealer on the side of the road and another coconut place who literally said they don't take amex before we ordered, don't take Amex . Wouldn't bother with the attitude we got from the waitress. Food and beer were...
