I visited the Depot, not expecting too much with my two toddler boys (to be honest!!). I was very wrong! Both Docents were extremely kind and knowledgeable. I feel like I could've listened for hours, truly! Their passion was evident and it was such a sweet surprise to stumble upon.
For parents with children: Beside the history of the train itself, there is so much more potential for discovery. Inside the main building, my toddlers were able to actually touch and learn what different telephones were like, use a typewriter, Morse code, and see where cotton comes from/how it's bundled, what it looks like on a tree. There is another room for "coloreds only", so imagine the conversations you can have seeing it in person. So much history crammed in!! In the caboose, we learned about the evolution of the braking system and what each person was responsible for/what it looked like. This is especially important for me at this stage because I had no idea the conductor mainly worked in the caboose. My boys can play more authentically with their sets now 🤪. I could go on! I was very delighted and I hope this message gets to them because they absolutely made our day!
