I was kind of hoping to write Steve/E-tech the best review he's ever gotten...but I see now that I have my work cut out for me. Clearly I've arrived late to the "All Hail Steve!" party. :-)
To be honest, when Steve returned my phone call regarding my computer (I called at 7:30 pm and he was calling 9:20am the following morning) I tried to politely let him know that I was already out of town and on my way to another computer repair guy closer to where I worked. Instead of just saying "alright, well good luck" and hanging up, Steve cared enough about me (a total faceless stranger) to educate me on the going rates for the repair of my broken screen at some of the box stores/rip-off joints. All he said was, "Alright, but just to let you know...they will tell you that it will cost $200-300 to fix and I can guarantee I can do it for $150." I sort of brushed him off and went about my day.
He was 100% right! The store said $300 to fix so I said I was just gonna chuck the damn thing and buy new...when really I was gonna call Steve back immediately to schedule an appointment. Not only was steve kind enough to give me a heads up (even with no real reason to want to help me since I told him I wasn't using him for the repair), but he was gracious enough to not make me feel dumb for not knowing enough about computers to see a rip off like that. I even mentioned that I had a Mac Powerbook that fell off a couch with a broken screen as well (that had been sitting in a closet for at least 1.5 years because I never got around to hooking it up to a monitor to move the files to my HP)...I didn't even realize the thing would be worth fixing until he said he could replace that screen too for a lot less than if I took it to Apple (or anyone else for that matter), so I brought both laptops with me.
He saw me right away after work that day (even after his scheduled hours) and promised to get my work computer fixed ASAP as cheaply as possible. He explained that if the place he gets parts at didn't have that screen, it may be a couple days and slightly more expensive than if he could get it locally. I believe it was the very next day that he contacted me to let me know he'd gone out to Eastlake--a 35 minute drive from Lakewood--to pick up my screen and would have my computer ready for me after work. Unbelievable!!!!
He could have easily told me it was out of stock and saved himself the trip/gotten slightly more money, but he's a genuinely good person. Go figure. He kept his promise as well and the total for my HP screen plus labor came out to $149. The turnaround for the repair was less than 24 hours...with after hours drop off and pick up because he was flexible for my schedule.
He is working on my Mac now. I can't wait to have it back!!! Steve is incredible...You can trust him to treat you fairly and to put just as much time, effort and expertise into fixing whatever issue you have as he would if he were working on his own computer. He can empathize with those of us whose work depends on us having our computers and does everything possible to expedite the process. I think I may be somewhat sad when he returns my Mac, since I don't have anything else that needs to be fixed and I've really enjoyed getting to know him. I got way more than I was expecting to get when I googled "computer repair lakewood ohio". Wonder when our xbox is...
Read moreBefore going out and dropping cash (which I seriously didn't have!) on a new laptop, I decided to look around the Cleveland area and see if someone could RESUWRECKT (and yeah,..that is the MOST ACCURATE descriptive!).. resuwreckt my previous laptop. This little ASUS eee-Pc had physically gone back & forth to ASUS Tech Support, had been PHYSICALLY mishandled, BEATEN(!) & abused (NOT BY ME, though!- long story). Anyway,.. you get the point. Baby had been through Hell and back.
I was going on a half-hearted hope that someone might be able to ''pull-a-rabbit outa the hat'' and repair it.
I Googled [Cleveland, OH Computer Repair], found Steve's E-tech site, looked around & read some of the reviews. What I found looked decent, so I decided to give him a call. NICEST, REAL guy over the phone,.. and on-the-spot TECHNICALLY KNOWLEDGEABLE! After discussing the situation / MY CONCERNS with him, I was confident enough in Steve's ability to let him take a look at it.
Brought the laptop to him, discussed the specific issues further.. as he went about creating a Job Order- for the work to be done. He felt confident that he could address ALL THE ISSUES, and have it back in my hands... IN 3 OR 4 HOURS!!!
Dude,.. WHAT??! Are we talking about my computer?! Seriously? Maybe.. you should take another look!
Well,.. so, anyway,.. I left it in his hands, went to run some errands.. and told him to call me when it was done.
Sure enough, 3 / 4 hours later.. Steve calls to tell me that my laptop's good-to-go & ready for pick-up. To say that I was dumbfounded / amazed.. is to be modest!
When I got there,.. he had the laptop ON / RUNNING / ONLINE STABLE ( I couldn't even initialize / log-in, beforehand! ). He got the Laptop to run WITHOUT THE BATTERY PUT IN ( it could never, ever do that prior! ) He'd changed the OS from Lynux to manageable WinXp! He ordered me a new KEYBOARD (remember what I had said before about it being physically BEATEN!..), even though the current keyboard proved somewhat still manageable. And yeah,.. I most certainly needed a new one! Steve did a few more amazing things to this laptop, for me, but.. you get the picture. As a matter of fact, I wrote this review using my repaired lil' laptop. AND IT'S STILL GOING GREAT!
And now,.. the cost.
First off- put away the Oxygen and drop the defibrillator!
Steve DID DO ALOT FOR ME- awesome work! But the cost was VERY MANAGEABLE / EXTREMELY REASONABLE- and very much worth it! ( My wallet howls like the undead & tries to bite my hand, every time I reach in to pull out a bill! And remember,.. I was willing to let someone ATTEMPT what I thought was THE IMPOSSIBLE, rather than DROP THE CASH for a new laptop ). I just DO NOT have a great deal of financial resource to run with, at the moment. In retrospect, and after checking around a bit now, I can imagine the possible horror story I may have gotten.. if I hadn't stumbled into Steve & E-tech, to begin with. YOU BET that I whole-heartedly endorse his services- 100%! His business is adequately equipped, he comes bearing 20 years of tech experience, and.. in my opinion,.. if you're uncomfortable speaking with Steve, .. then YOU better make a doctor's appointment,cuz.. there's something definitely wrong.
Thanks Steve, for helping me out of a jam! Because,.. as we both concurred: HAVING NO COMPUTER ACCESS, IN TODAY'S...
Read moreI wish I had read the 1-star reviews before bringing my laptop here. What I experienced was a disturbing mix of hidden damage, unauthorized part swaps, recurring issue, and blatant dishonesty.
Not only did they damage my laptop—breaking the internal camera cable—but they also swapped out fully functional parts without my permission and never disclosed anything. When I picked up my laptop, the camera no longer worked due to the damage, and they said nothing about it.
To make matters worse, the original power issue I brought my laptop in for came back just 2 days later. Unacceptable—especially since the guy/owner, Steve, had guaranteed over the phone that my computer would be “100%” fully functional after their repair.
It was a headache from the beginning. During the initial diagnostic call, I explicitly told Steve I wanted my original DC-in board reinstalled, as they took it out of my laptop during diagnostics. He confirmed it had been. But when I picked up the laptop, it was obvious the board had been replaced with a more worn, dirtier one that even had an extra serial marking. My original board was in excellent condition, fully functional. There was absolutely no reason to replace it.
When I brought this up, Steve insisted the board was my original one, claiming, “The only thing we did was clean it—and we didn’t have to.” As if I should be grateful. Fortunately, I had taken internal pictures of my laptop before dropping it off. I showed him my picture proof. Instead of apologizing or explaining, he arrogantly said, “If we did replace it, you got a $25 part for free.” Seriously? First he said my original board was reinstalled—then when caught, he acted like I should thank him for being dishonest?
Then came the final excuse: he backtracked again and claimed he “didn’t know” because he “wasn’t the one who did the work.” How convenient! This kind of evasiveness and shifting story is textbook shady behavior.
They also swapped out my fully functional fan with a used fan—again, without asking or informing me. All of this happened without any transparency or accountability.
This wasn’t just poor service—it was unethical conduct. My experience reflects what many 1-star reviews have warned about. It seems this is a pattern, not a one-off.
Don’t be fooled by the “good” reviews or the owner’s promises. Read the 1-star reviews. If you value your device, your time, and your peace of mind, take your...
