Museum of Nature & Science — Attraction in Las Cruces

This is a very popular place for families to bring their children. When I was there in a Saturday morning, it was crowded with activities set up in the huge lobby for children and a very large number of families visiting the exhibits. Although not large, the museum does an excellent job of showing the geological history of our area and the creatures that live in it now. Many of the exhibits are interactive. Yes, it was noisy that day, but it was the sound of happy children learning and growing. During the week, of course, the museum is quiet with much fewer visitors. This is an awesome museum that the City of Las Cruces provides. Granted it isn't on the scale of a children's museum or a dedicated science museum, but it does touch on a lot of subjects in a very small space. They have astronomy, topology, fossils, love animals found in the area, dead animals found in the area, and at times host certain events mostly for children. They are attached to the Art museum complex as well and are across a courtyard from the Branigan Cultural Center. Though this museum is mall compared to museums I larger cities, my son absolutely loves it. There are live animals that are native to out desert ecosystem and they schedule feeding time so people can watch (lots of crickets to reptiles). They have a whole exhibit about the prehistoric trackways, about the discovery of Pluto, and some interactive learning stations. They have classes and demonstrations planned year-round.
