Ok first the pros: The newest and most innovative venue in our city! It’s stunning when you walk in, and if you’re in the industry like me, you can get on their Guestlist! My buddy was dj’ing so my friend and I walked in free and we were even brought in by what I think was a host, a very nice lady! The design is unique, the entire place as in the walls and floors are all a white screen to project constantly flowing images, never been in a venue like this before, so that impressed me! The sound is great, and the speakers are well hidden in the ceilings and walls! Staff was welcoming and if you’ll feel their vibe!
Now the cons, and why I only give it 3 stars; IT’S FREAKIN FREEZING INSIDE!! BRING A JACKET AND WEAR LONG PANTS AND SHOES!! I asked why it’s that cold, and like a tv studio is, they have some many projectors and audio equipment constantly running that they must keep the a/c on at likely 60* to keep all that equipment cool! So if you visit during the 8 months that our city is 100*+ every day and night, bring additional clothing!!
Second issue, THERE’S NO BATHROOM INSIDE THE ACTUAL VENUE!! This was shocking to me! You literally have to walk out into the lobby around to the back side of the ticketing counter to find the bathroom! Never seen such a stupid design! I can only imagine the traffic jam of people trying to get in the venue, with those walking out to pee!
And finally THERES NO CELL SERVICE INSIDE THE VENUE AND NO WIFI!! It’s 2022 people, how do you construct a brand new venue with materials that block cell service, AND don’t install public WiFi???
And side note I’ve heard tickets can start at $45 and be higher depending on the night and event you attend! That’s expensive imo. And yes the drinks are overpriced, very Vegas strip level; $15 per cocktail!
Overall, it’s gona be great for big name dj’s as they’ve already had, but be prepared to likely wait in a long bathroom line and a packed patio if people trying to use...
Read moreThe Illuminarium is really a cool place that misses the mark if you're looking to be more educated.
Starting with the good, it's a cool looking building inside and out. The staff appeared to be very excited to perform their roles and responsibilities. We had a start time at 11am for one of the space exhibits and they take however many they can into the launch room to sit in cozy chairs, with wall to wall screens (the ceiling has tons of technology), where an enthusiastic worker prepares you for your journey. This felt like the ultimate tease where there was education offered, and you felt the immersive nature we thought we were promised. After the short intro the have you go into a larger room and you're on your own...
This is where we felt lost. It was a beautiful room, with great visuals and a semi-interactive floor with a very delayed response. You can't touch the walls though. And basically you are left there for 45 min (you can leave at any time) to watch the visuals very slowly change. There is semi relevant music playing, some audio and very minimal information about space and the moon launch were offered. There is no more cool space guide, just chaperones to make sure no one breaks anything.
I think as 2 adults we realized this was an elementary school field trip during the day and they try to bring in the adults to drink at night, with their 21+ events.
For 2 adults who were seeking a greater educational experience we dropped the ball on not reading more reviews about what we were walking into.
We also just grabbed standard tickets so there may have been more to offer at higher price points.
All in all if you're a parent with a young child or a school looking to introduce kids to some things, it's a great place. The kids appeared to be having a blast. I would be curious about teenagers as they may get bored quickly without more to engage with.
I encourage you to dig deeper if interested and if you...
Read moreThis was a weird experience. I’m still not sure how I feel about it. I actually booked tickets right before they opened. I got the family pack instead of individual tickets because it was cheaper and I picked a reserve time for 11. We arrived at 10:55 and there was about 20-30 other people waiting in line. They let us in at exactly 11. We sat in a room and took off into space which was pretty cool. Then we went over rules (no flash on cameras, no touching the walls, and no running). This took no more than 5 minutes. Then they transferred us to a huge room where we went into space. It was nice at first because it wasn’t much people. So everyone got to move around freely and take pictures and videos without any obstructions or being on top of each other. Then they let another group in midway through of about 50 or more people. Then a little after that they let another huge group in and you couldn’t even walk without bumping into someone. Couldn’t take any pictures or videos because there were people everywhere. Then the presentation started to repeat itself and I realized it was just a continuous loop. Reserve time didn’t matter. They were just letting people in and you could stay the whole time if you wanted. I asked a worker if we could leave and I was told I could leave anytime at the exit door in the back. The worker wasn’t even finished telling me this when the doors opened and another group of people, like a hundred was being let in. I couldn’t have gotten out of there fast enough. They were packing people in there like sardines. I’m so glad I picked the opening show. If it was just the original group I started with then the experience would have been amazing but I hated how they were overpacking the room to the point where it became uncomfortable and unenjoyable. I can’t recommend if this is how they always operate. 5 stars for the first half. 1 star for...
