I frequent Area 15 a lot with my family for the weekends. Have been here at the restaurant 3 times so far since my husband and kids love fish. Menu is fairly limited. Food is alright and atmosphere needs more elevation. But WOW what a turn over rate! New faces everytime you walk by. I ate here with my family and the service was just not there. Feels like a fast food restaurant. Disconnect from chefs to servers. Where's the personality and style at the bar? Mediocre.
I ordered a rice bowl and the presentation was messy and portion for fish seems very small. For a $15 bowl, I would expect some fish in there. Bowl looks thrown together. I think he's a manager or head chef named Auiegie who made some orders for us. Gave off rude energy when I was asking question about the lobster and try to converse. When Ive got the bowl prior visits, one of the chefs working took time to make it look very nice and tasty. Not piled together. Fish is alright but why are some rolls inconsistent? Some are soggy, some come with crunchy seaweed. Sizes are different. And the portions are a bit small for the price of each set.
Also my husband got the Signature Pairing and was very disappointed. Didn't have the whiskey it is supposed to be paired with so we got a 2 ounce pour of another cheaper bottle. On top of that, not real Japanese Wagyu!! What is that about!? That was the most disappointing part of the whole meal. Not worth the $88. Especially with missing items and low quality wagyu. Better off visiting Chinatown on...
Read moreLove the decor and vibes this restaurant brings, and the menu offers a nice selection of BYO poke bowl, rolls and sashimi. If you purchase the packages, you can also get a free California hand roll with purchase over $6.
Service good, friendly staff. Quick service as well.
Food is average. Seafood freshness is average, and I do think some of my produce wasn't as fresh as it can be, that or the marinade was off.
Poke 3/5 rice was good texture, not overly pasty, good amount of rice vinegar sweetness complimentary toppings were interesting, with chunks of cabbage offered, making it awkward to eat imo did lack a bit in flavour overall, can use more sauce when making their bowls if anything the tuna poke was reasonable in portion, but seasoning was off, not overpowering but did have a slight fishy taste, suggesting not too fresh yuzu poncho was nice and subtle, can use more sauce as mentioned but you can ask for more on the side salmon and yellowtail was average
California hand roll 3.5/5 surumi used for imitation crab meat, good amount of mayo as binder and for flavour seaweed was good but did get soggy fast -well balanced in toppings for this one
Overall unsure if I would come back, but decent for a quick handball or two, wouldn't mind getting those. As for the bowl, I may opt for...
Read moreThis place kinda ruined my day. The hostess told us it would be a 15 minute wait, then it took 45 minutes. We got a text that our table was ready so went over and the hostess told us it would be another 5 minutes. Then we got to our table and our server took forever to get to us, seemed mad that we were there, and forgot my drink. But the weirdest part was that after I had been sitting for a while getting no service, some guy waltzed in and sat right next to me and started talking about how he was the building manager. The whole staff stopped everything they were doing to cater to him. My friend and I ordered our sushi at the same time and hers came out first, then mine took another 20 MINUTES, in which time this “building manager” who got there way after me, was served TWO dishes!! It was just so unprofessional. The sushi was amazing, but it was very expensive for teeny tiny portions. It was absolutely not worth the wait and horrible/weird service. I wish I could go back in time to tell myself not...
