Speaking as an artist myself, I’m sad to say that this exhibition had a lot of missed potential.
The idea behind it was very creative and the music is the absolute highlight here. The visuals that accompany it, however, miss the mark greatly. They get repetitive quickly and the “infinity” illusion is easily broken by a combination of things such as the bright exit window, your own single reflection in front of you and placements of lights and speakers, among other things, that clearly signal where the real physical space ends and where the mirrors begin.
I don’t think the desired effect was ever truly achieved here. I couldn’t shake the feeling that several creative compromises had to be made to keep the attraction in budget and a lot of possible great ideas were lost along the way. And in the end, not even having big names behind it justify the $18 USD price tag. I’d be all for a second incarnation of this exhibition that achieves its true potential. As it stands, however, I’d tell any Area15 visitors to pass on this one and save their money for a drink of merch at...
Read moreI normally don’t bother signing in to make reviews, however this attraction at Area 15 was too highly rated. Rooms with objects and mirrors on the sides with loud music and strobing lights tried to hard to push a “deep” narrative which unfortunately just made the entire event seem cheap and unprepared. Each room was exactly like the one before, except the objects would change, from coils to ribbons. The male voiceover did not make us think about the meaning of life but rather how we wished ours would end. The people in the room with us were also making jokes about how they wished there was an exit in each section. Sorry, it was boring, but at least it was silly and we had a few laughs. No, the boundaries of our mind were not pushed, but contained in 5x5 ft cells....
Read moreI have to give this a low star as well. Area 15 is a unique experience in general. I appreciate it being designed for the unique individuals of the world with really big imaginations. If that's not you, this isn't your place. From the Omega Mart to the various exhibits it's just uniquely different. If you aren't of alternate thoughts this will leave you very underwhelmed and scratching your head. I've tried a few things here and nothing worked. I would say if anything it would be the virtual reality game. Just not my cup of tea.
For the creative big minds with big imaginations this could be your playground. To break it down, this is best enjoyed in a totally mind altered state. Not sure if alcohol would qualify unless you are super...
