Read moreI have written a review a couple of years ago, noting how rundown the theater has become. Let me provide an update for my recent visit on June 21, 2025. After Covid, the theater reopened and was like night and day from before Covid. It seems like it was allowed to disintegrate, which is understandable, since there was zero income to support upkeep and renovations. In the time since Covid, I began visiting Cinemark Egyptian, which is always top tier in cleanliness and general theater maintenance. This became our family habit, and we were comfortable with that, but personally, I felt bad, because I want my local businesses to succeed. I want the Regal to succeed, because we've had so many good viewings there in the past, and it employs our local neighbors. So, I told my wife that my intent is to patronize the theater, while also providing their corporate team feedback on needed changes.
On our recent visit, we were greeted by the friendliest staff, who made us feel very welcomed. They appeared to take pride in their work and were very accommodating. We walked into a virtually empty theater and sat on well worn seats with a broken tray, but I am assured by Regal management that these things are a priority for them to address. Once the lights fell low, the viewing experience was excellent. My wife and I enjoyed ourselves and plan to purchase their Unlimited plan to take advantage of the Summer movie blitz.
As I noted, I am strongly rooting for a comeback for our local Regal Laurel Towne Centre theater. It is truly a blessing to have it as an anchor in our shopping center, especially in these times when brick and mortar stores are shuttering because of online competition. Movie theaters are still hurting because of the Covid home theater phenomena, and I will admit, I have a 135" screen in my mancave, but the movie experience is like no other, and provides a way to not only get out of the house, but to support local businesses that rely on us showing up. I hope that other people who have shunned this theater come back and help it thrive. It would be so sad to see an empty building should Regal decide to close this location.
The more we support them, the better chance that they will stay and provide our community with a wonderful venue. Just because it needs a little work, doesn't mean that we should abandon it. Let's help...
Read moreMust be under new management. Three months ago this was my favorite place to see a movie. Reserved seating, recliners, modern electronic projection equipment. But I guess Regal management decided the patrons were happy and that had to stop. This week I saw 2 movies, on Saturday with a full theater and then another movie on Monday with only 3 of us. On Saturday I took off my jacket when I arrived, but the auditorium was so cold I put it back on before the feature started. On Monday it was even colder; I took my jacket off and put it right back on, and by the middle of the feature I was wishing I had gloves and a blanket. It was about 40 degrees outside and the auditorium felt no warmer, though the lobby was heated.
But even worse than the cold, management sends an usher with a very bright flashlight, the kind with an orange cone to direct traffic, to just walk around and be a distraction repeatedly during the show, and apparently screwing up the show is the point; if they wanted to check what the patrons were doing, they could send an usher in to just discreetly look over the auditorium from one side of the screen. The usher with the bright light and no purpose other than wander around and disturb the patrons is apparently Regal theater policy, they did it several times each during the Saturday show and the Monday show.
I like going out to see a movie, but if the management has such contempt for the patrons that they freeze us and shine a light around to mess up the experience, I'll be watching DVDs at home...
