In January 2025, I received notification from the eye care practice that I had been going to previously that it was time to schedule an eye exam. However, it wasn't until the day of my exam that I learned that Dr. Kari Carpenter was no longer associated with the practice and that she had opened her own new practice, 20/20 Eyemax. As I have had a positive experience with Dr. Carpenter at her old practice, I was excited that I would get to see her and be a patient with the her new practice.
However, my enthusiasm was soon to be short lived. When I arrived at the practice, I enquired about their acceptance of insurance. I was told that they do not file insurance and that I would have to file it myself. I was initially ok with that because it wasn't that hard to file the insurance myself.
My enthusiasm turned to anger when my insurance carrier subsequently denied my claim because 20/20 Eyemax is not in network. I felt that I had been given incorrect and incomplete information when asking about insurance from 20/20 Eyemax, especially as a new patient. The practice only told me that they didn't file insurance, not that they were out of network and that I'd have to pay for the office visit out of pocket.
I suppose there is possibly some ignorance on my part in not investigating further but Dr. Carpenter's old practice was in network. I made the false assumption that her new practice was too and that my payment would be reimbursed.
As a result, I unfortunately will no longer be a patient of Dr. Carpenter's after many years of patronage. I cannot afford to continue being a patient when there are other eye care firms that do accept my insurance. Dr. Carpenter provides great eye care but it is not covered by the largest vision insurance provider. Just make sure you understand the ramifications of going to...
Read moreDr, Carpenter has been my eye doc for as long as I can remember…probably since 2000. I couldn’t be happier. What is really awesome is 2020EyeMax doesn’t require insurance. Her group is the only I’m aware of that will actually tell you up front what the charges will be. We all know insurance controls our healthcare. It’s so refreshing that her group recognizes this and has chosen to push insurance to the back burner. Recently, Dr. Carpenter recommended a new technology, hybrid lenses. They are a hard lens center with a soft lens skirt. I was excited to try them as they last six months. They are expensive only because you’re paying for a six month lens. Within a few days of adjustment the distant clarity was, no better way to describe it…ultra high definition. Objects in the distance were amazing. I tried them for a month, but unfortunately, my eyes couldn’t adjust to computer use. I could read a business card but had to squint and move my head to read my computer monitor. Since I spend much of my day behind a computer I was unable to continue this particular contact even though I had paid quite a lump for them. I contacted her and she had me bring them in. 100% refund. I’m back to disposable contacts but I encourage others to try the hybrids. Best eye doc in central Kentucky and, although she has a bubbly personality, perhaps the best part is being greeted by her miniature...
Read moreI have suffered for over 2 years with not being able to see in my right eye. Eye max has supplied me with the contact that allows me to make out figures a 100%. I recommend them to anyone. That is experiencing seeing problems. Took me a while to be able to get the contact in correctly without air bubbles. But practice will make perfect. Not quite there yet, but persistence will prevail. I do feel that they should get in network. So people can afford to visit this office to get excellent care. Alot of people cannot afford a $500 office visit on top of the specialty lens. It cost me over a $1100.00 for 1 contact for my right eye. Along with 1 office visit. Thank...
