Was just in using a gift card. Wasn't going to buy anything else past using the gift card but then while my husband was looking at games, my son and I were up by the counter looking at and talking about him getting a new controller. With his disabilities and bad joints in his hands, the left joysticks of his controllers always end up messed up and the joystick will drift off in game. The guy at the counter was listening and told me that he could bring in the old controllers and trade them for $20 in-store credit each. I told him they were Xbox One wireless controllers and asked if he would still get the $20 in-store credit each even though the joysticks were messed up and he said yep that it didn't matter and to just bring them in and he could trade them in for the $20 in-store credit still and then also told us that my son can bring his old Xbox games in to trade for in-store cash as well. He even started talking to me about signing up for pro membership and paying $20 and that the next time I came into the store I would have a $5 off thing to use and about the discounts. I was super happy with that and thought it was very nice of him to tell us about that so I purchased a pro membership that day. Well that was a couple days ago. I went back in with my son today and there was a different lady at the counter and she only gave us $12 in-store credit for each wireless controller instead of the $20 in-store credit per controller that we were promised by the guy previously. She told me that it was because the joysticks were damaged and that because they were old Xbox One wireless controllers not the newer Xbox system controllers. I told her that the guy told me before that it didn't matter about the joysticks being messed up and I had told him what kind of controllers they were and he said we would still get $20 in-store credit each but apparently that's not true and this guy lied so he could squeeze more money out of us in sales that day. And on top of that, there was no $5 off thing waiting for me to use like he said there would be the next time I went to the store. My son was already excited to be getting a new controller and doesn't understand that the guy tricked us and really wanted to trade his old stuff still, so I decided to accept the loss and just pay for what was left to pay on the controller instead of it being paid off through trades so he could have the new one. The amount he got for the games was laughable too. Great employee gamestop, doesn't have a problem trying to rip off a special...
Read moreLately I’ve had multiple bad interactions with what looks like one of the managers. The first time I bought games a couple weeks ago he added the pro membership and warranties on to the bill without talking about it. Then when I see it on the card machine and tell him I don’t want these services he acts like I’m the worst person in the world and is very annoyed. Second time was yesterday, I bought a brand new game expecting it to be wrapped in plastic it wasn’t game was just put in the display case with the huge new sticker on it. I didn’t really notice at first started walking towards the door and opened the case to see the game, then realized I shouldn’t be able to just open the game. Turned around asked for a new game he said that’s the only case we have, so I asked can you at least take of the stickers only reason I buy a new game no stickers. He said yeah, only to tell me oh I forgot every new game I have to put this seal sticker where it opens on every new game. So he takes off price sticker and adds a seal sticker, I asked can you just leave the seal sticker off and he said it’s policy sorry. It’s ridiculous you were going to let me walk out of here a minute ago without it now it’s policy. He has poor customer service I wish I got his name he needs to go. Makes me never want to go...
Read moreI agree with many people who have reviewed this game stop, yes the staff is friendly and the lines do move fast. However, you should be aware that just because they are nice and the lines are fast it doesn't account for the horrid trade in values. Game Stop offers cash and credit however, you will always get more credit than you do cash, I remember many years ago when the original Crackdown was new, I inquired how much I could get in credit for the game and I was told that I could get nearly $45, I brought the game in the next day to be given $15 credit.
I was confused as to the reason why and they told me that the games value dropped drastically because the Halo 3 Beta ended the night before. They base the trade in values on items that people may not know about. I suggest that if you want to get rid of your games, go to facebook. There are many game trading pages in Cowlitz County, you'll get better deals then you would if you dealt with GS.
There has been a total of three times that I purchased a game from Game Stop only for it to not work, each time they did take it back, that's a positive.
Pro: Lines move fast Pro: Employees are courteous Pro: They do accept returns
Con: Game trade in values horribly skewed and based on factors that aren't shared with the public.
