Security was on the ball. He politely checked our ID's as soon as we walked in.
Sure it was a busy Saturday night, but the service was terrible nonetheless. Hey servers, you could make $500 or more in tips on a 4 hour shift if you cared to do your job well. In the 90's, I consistently made $250-$300 in 4 hours EVERY Friday and Saturday night....and that's when minimum wage was $4.25 an hour and prices were half of what they are now.
Several servers passed us multiple times without offering to get our drink or food order. We eventually yelled out to one - the short, blond girl with the necklace tattoo. She told us she "wasn't our server" and walked away without showing us who our server was, offering to help us, or alerting our server on our behalf. We yelled out to the Hispanic girl. She looked our way but didn't acknowledge us. I made a joke that maybe they don't serve anyone over the age of 30 here.
My husband got up, went and stood in line at the other end of the bar, and was finally successful. When he came back, he said the server with the necklace tattoo poured vodka in a beer, pretended it was an accident, and then handed it to a patron. In my serving days, I didn't embezzle from my employer to get tips; I did my job WELL to get tips. If she's blatantly over-pouring IN FRONT of patrons, you can bet embezzlement, which that IS, is a huge problem there. I bet there are other ways the owner is losing money from his employees too.
The couple sitting next to us also had to travel to the other end of the bar to stand in line for a drink.
Toilet paper and used toilet seat covers trailed out of the girl's bathroom into the bar by the pool table. The employees didn't bother to clean it up the entire time we were there. Yuck.
As we were leaving, two girls got into a physical fight. The cops came. Really ladies???
Tips for the owner:
The servers need better training and a "team" mindset. They need to learn how to do the most possible in the fewest steps, upsell food or higher quality drinks (this will increase their tips too), get a solid serving system down, and CARE about the customer...or lose their jobs. They need to help each other out when their team members are busier than they are or when they can lend a hand. They need to help ANY customer, regardless of whose section that is. For instance, let the customer know you aren't their server but you'll let their server know the customer needs something. First of all, acknowledge the customer with your eyes or a nod or your words, help them, or if you can't help them...then find someone who can. Don't just leave them to fend for themselves and then expect a tip for poor service. There should be a rotating schedule with one employee a night assigned to check the bathrooms every hour and another employee tasked with signing off each hour on the bathroom check. It literally only takes 1-2 minutes to do a quick clean up and sign off sheet. The redundancy of one employee signing off on the other will help ensure it gets done. Security should diffuse situations BEFORE fights break out. If people seem to be escalating, kick them out. Your other patrons, who are there to have a good time, don't want the cops called, thereby risking a DUI, and your establishment risking fines for over serving. Lastly, I highly suggest you do a nightly, weekly, or monthly inventory of what was sold and how much you have in stock. I bet you're losing lots of money from employees embezzling. If we saw it the first time we were there, and they were that brazen about it, then I'd bet it's not an occasional problem. Make an example out of the worst offender, and work on finding quality employees for the future. Remember, if they're stealing from their employer, they'll steal from your...
Read moreI have never been so disrespected in my life. My boyfriend has been talking about how great this bar is so I agree to go in for dinner with him on a Sunday night. The bartender (Danielle) approaches us after about 10-15mins but doesn't even acknowledge me. Blatantly flirting with my boyfriend right in front of me...takes his food order....and still hasn't acknowledged me...so he asks me what I want and she turns and walks away as I'm speaking. My food plate was slammed down in front of me and she proceeded to continue the overly friendly convo with my boyfriend. I can't help but feel extremely disrespected. Maybe she has a thing for my boyfriend. Maybe she had a bad day. Either way, there is no excuse for the way I was treated. We did not tip and left almost immediately as my mac and cheese appeared to be messed with. Her attitude was terrible and customer service does not appear to be a good fit as a profession. One patron played music very loud and was so drunk she could barely form a sentence... she then began dancing around, bumping into and dancing on others....and Danielle continued to serve her...I bartend in Vancouver and would have cut the woman off long before she even hit this point. But the boyfriend said the drunk woman is some sort of management at silver star which is why she is allowed to behave that way and continue to get served. NOBODY should be that drunk and still be served. The service was terrible, my food was messed with and people are still served after they clearly should not have any more. Bad attitudes and breaking the law...i would not recommend this...
Read moreHad the bodyguard, stop me. On my way out mind this, he asked me to say his name wrong again.
Gasping, all the while steadily watching his body movements. He therefore psychically got in my face, saying I was racist. Because I did not know his name, better yet. Remember it, for who knows what reason. Also, by that time I'd asked the other bodyguards and my friend behind this huge 6'3 African American man, by the name of Virgil. He is known for security and fighting. And now, assault a disabled man working to feed his family and friends, and after I enjoy a great night out at Silver Star. This is what happened, then was offered a job at Stirling Honda a week or two later. Then got extremely anxious and keep trying at it, (by this point that night had no resulting action done, except for people now following me and stalking me all over the town) to see if I could land a full-time job to work for the summer time, one week after the assault verbally at Silver Star with the securty guard Virgil.
I put this out there to the public, so we can all be aware of very well may be. Happening literally right under our noses, it's disgraceful. And both businesses on Washington Way, Stirling Honda and Silver Star. Has lost me a customer and. With hopes you all will see the other options and decide to help business that deserve your busines. Rather than, people who stand looking like they deserve your money.
