Mi Familia calls itself a "Swapmeet" (they do have a few vendors from plants to toys to tools.) But right now MOST of the booths are food, food, food.
The VENUE is friendly, cozy and secure (rt in front of City Hall) with great FREE, NO-HASSLE, parking. You can sample all kinds of foods and then take a nice after-meal stroll around the adjacent beautiful RA Long Park in the center of the Roundabout.
And the "Best Kept Secret" of this venue? A relative new-comer (only a few weeks in), an authentic, taste-bud tingling "Special Tasty Vietnamese Food" stand located right at the corner entrance found at Broadway and RA Long Park.
I've been to a gazillion night markets from Seattle to LA including 626 Santa Monica (where you must mortgage your home to buy a dinner, lol)--so you can imagine my surprise and delight to discover this wonderful family who decided to bring a Vietnamese option to our little town. Wow! The flavor and offerings (and yes, you CAN get non-spicy if u ASK for it cuz they actually LISTEN and want you to leave happy!) are the BOMB. And the prices? Very reasonable!!!
I ordered a delicious made-to-order Vietnamese Sandwich for $7. It is made up of grilled tofu, carrots, cucmber, onions, cilantro (and probably other things I should have noticed but it was history pretty quick) all smothered in a savory sauce and tucked into a french roll. (Vietnam was at one time occupied by the French, hence the fusion in some of their dishes such as this sandwich.)
I also ordered their 8 piece fried tofu for $5. The tofu squares were the perfect texture, sauteed in a mint, cilantro and slightly spicy sauce (I'm a "spice whimp" so they made it perfectly mild for me!) These are just a few items I and my "foody family" tasted so far. We are "in love at first bite" so are now dedicated fans who will work our way around the menu.
I (selfishly) hope Longview and surround turn out to have their tastebuds tantalized by "Special Tasty Vietnamese Food." As they become better known, other venues will seek them out so we need to show them that we want them HERE.
