Average. So this is my first theater review, I'm going to be posting on YouTube all the theaters in LA and reviewing them. Let's begin with AMC Century City 15.
Presentation from the enterance: Outside is simple enough to find, looks like a theater built into a concrete jungle. Blah.
Inside: a bit confusing what we should do. Go to the kiosk or grab an employee to get our ticket? We had a situation where the manager offered us to come see Astroid City there instead of the theater we usually go to(do to an error on our part) So she said come in and they will take care of us. Well they gave us attitude when when we asked to speak to said manager or another. *Here's their chance to shine~ We waited, started to get annoyed as out movie had started 15 minutes ago. I worked at theaters growing up, and one was AMC.
I know these days customer service at theaters is practically invisible with you kids working it, but I grew up at the end of an age where THEATERS WERE AN EXPERIENCE. These days is just a louder and larger screen, that's it. But to make up for it, CS should be on point. What is going on?!
Okay, ticket process on kiosk: Simple enough But I didn't come to a theater to push buttons and walk to the theater. Sorry, what am I paying crazy prices for again?
Seats: Not the Imax recliners but a nice simple felt with really good cushions. Okay they won this one.
Screen: Smaller screen theater, but it was displaying the film decently until I noticed some cut offs (not sure this one since Wes Anderson plays with screen ratio a lot and the cut off could be intentional) annoying though.
Sound: Perfect!
Exciting and leaving: Normal, but slightly strange with the need to take an escalator to enter and exit. I guess jothing to say about it. It was nice not to see the theater crew rush in and start cleaning up. They should impliment a 10 minutes after the credits begin before entering.
Overall: Average theater with an average experience. Will I go back? Nope. The mall it's in offers a nice validation, but I want more from a movie theater experience and you should too.
The reason it's a 3 star instead of a 2,is because the awesome manager Jennifer who showed us true customer service quality. If she didn't help us, I'd give a nice...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe theater itself is a great movie going experience. AMC Prime is my favorite way to watch movies. The ticket prices are a bit higher, but the theater is well kept and well run. I would easily give my review a perfect score but there are two things that negatively affect the experience, that are in no ways the theater's fault.
First is the parking, as it gets really crowded in the parking lots, especially on weekends, it can become an adventure trying to remember when and where you parked. The new parking system does tell you where you parked, but it only helps if you know their letter/number layout. The second, which also greatly adds to the first, are the technology "inexperienced" patrons (a Bill/Becky) who do not grasp the concept of the ticket kiosks and never pay for parking. Regardless of how slow it may be, it is guaranteed there will be a person who complains about the kiosks as they buy tickets from the guest services counter when you need them for something that the kiosks cannot do, and someone who didn't pay for parking as you try to exit the garage. It is a 100% guarantee that the one time you need guest services, and everytime you try to leave the garage, there will be at least one person who did not use the technology (designed to prevent those exact situations) and creates a long line. I have been coming to this mall for over a decade, and at this AMC almost weekly for over the past 5 years; it is a guarantee Bill or Becky didn't use the kiosk and now there's a line.
Again, I love this theater, but the Bill and Beckys will hold you up everytime and for the most "mundane" reason. It is hilariously inconvenient, and seemingly impossible how much of a guarantee it is that it will happen.
TLDR +Extremely well kept and well run theater +AMC Prime Screen +Intuitive Automated Machines allows for fast and efficient ticket purchasing and concessions experience
Parking can get complicated Technologically "inexperienced" patrons (Bills/Beckys) are guaranteed to create a hold up if you need to talk to a theater employee and when you are exiting the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is my go to theater in Los Angeles, and it should be for anyone reading this if they want a premium viewing experience. There are only THREE AMC theaters in southern california that have dolby cinema with the more advanced RGB laser projection. The AMC in Burbank, this one in Century City, and the one in Torrance. This is far and away the best LOOKING experience I've come across in the theater. I typically only go to see tentpole movies that are higher on the visual spectacle scale. The marvel movies, the star wars, star treks, etc etc, and the last thing I want to see is washed out color and terrible contrast.
This theater has brighter highlights and richer colors, and deeper blacks, looking at a space scene looks better here than almost all other theaters in the area. Sound is great, and it benefits from the fact that the auditorium is not TOO large. That is my problem with the Chinese theater in Hollywood, you often get seats so far back that even though the projection is good, the screen can get quite small. That and the acoustics of that theater are not as good as the more modern theaters designed from the ground up for movies like the amc dolby venues.
Seats are supremely comfortable, I recently saw a movie at my old go to theater (Cinemark) and it felt like I was packed into a sardine can in comparison. AMC spoiled me with the Prime theater rooms, you do not have to deal will fellow movie goers flowing over their own seats onto you because there is just more space.
I hope AMC and other theaters continue to expand these high end laser projection venues. It really is superior, and if you are going to see a spectacle style movie, it makes zero sense to view such a thing on a low rent theater screen in my opinion. If anyone does decide to check this theater out or one of the other AMC theaters in the area, try to get tickets to the dolby theater version of the movie you want to see. That is only one I know of that uses...
