Regardless of me visiting the place more than 20 times, yesterday was a rather unpleasant experience. We arrived around 7:40 pm at the restaurant, after coming directly from the LAX airport. The reception girl Qiu Qiu who took the names shows apparent discrimination to us the Asian customers versus her friendly treatment of the European couple whose name was three rows after us. She told us the wait would be half an hour for three ppl and she will call me in advance. What happened was around 8:40 pm, I went back to ask her if it is our turn and saw the other groups in 3 and 2 have all been crossed off the list, including 2 groups after us. She said there is no seat available at the moment I will call you when ready. So I told her I will be right back and I asked the two other persons waiting 10 meters away to take their stuff and come to the desk. As we were approaching, the European couple 3 rows after us also arrived. Rather than speaking to us, Ms. Qiu warmly greeted them and walked them to a four seat table. When she came out, I asked her when is our turn, seems like the couple were after us. She insisted they had their name written before us, and said now it was our turn. With disbelief, I asked her to clarify why she didn't call me and only let us in when I asked. She came up with many excuses, including saying the couple arrived before me after putting their name down, but the truth is we got back to her the same time. She then lied to me that the couple wrote their name before us and pointed randomly to a 2 person group named "Mao" and I told her that is a Chinese name, then she reluctantly pointed to "Celeste" 3 rows after me. I told her this is not fair and her logic of letting people who signed after me to get in does not make sense. In addition, I noticed she also put 8:40 pm next to "Celeste"'s name even before talking to me. I am in general a very easy-going person but Ms. Qiu Qiu's unfair treatment to the customer and her later unapologetic behavior really disappoint me. The food is not as good as it used to be, but the waiter was very friendly. As an Asian restaurant, I hope the owner can make sure the employees are honest, respect customers of all races, rather than showing obvious penchant and friendliness to a portion of the customers, and little respect to customers who seem foreign to this country (we took the...
Read moreMeizhou is a nice little gem hidden next to the AMC theater in the Century City shopping center. I came on a Monday night, the place wasn't too packed, but wasn't deserted. The food came out in a steady pace. I'd suggest ordering plain rice to go with all the entrees.
My favorite dishes of the night included:
Bamboo Shoots Salad- Light and refreshing
Dongpo Pork Hock- Tender meat with strong flavors, went really well with plain rice
Sauteed Shrimp with Scallions- Also refreshing and flavorful with generous amount of scallions!
Dongpo Pork Buns- Definitely not heavy or greasy. I ate this near the end of my meal and it did NOT leave me feeling blah. The bun was light and fluffy.
Meizhou Roast Duck- MY FAVORITE!!! Nicely presented dish with tender meat and crispy skin. Both items not oily compared to other places. Sauces were plentiful and making "duck burrito" was easy, not to mention tasty! MUST TRY THE DUCK!!!
Another popular dish included the Sizzling Rice Cake with Assorted Seafood, but I thought if there were less sauce, then the natural flavors of the seafood would be more apparent, not to mention being able to experience the texture of the sizzling rice.
Sauteed string beans were slightly oily compared to what I prefer, but still flavorful and tasty.
Service was wonderful, attentive, but not overwhelming. Most of the staff members are bi-lingual in English and Chinese.
Ambiance is classy on the inside, even the restrooms were decorative and welcoming! This place can be described as an upscale/fine dining Szechuan Chinese restaurant. Prices are higher than your average Chinese fast food joints, but believe me, it's worth the price for nice occasions or...

The staff deserves an A and just about the only reason I have one star. but as for the food… Don’t come expecting traditional flavors as everything comes with a side of sugar.
Worst DanDan noodles in my life. First off, Dan Dan should never have broth, and if your changing a staple dish, at least make sure it has flavor. I’ve had better instant noodles.
We ordered the crispy duck and a quarter of the skin came burnt.. ergo the duck itself had several dry pieces and sadly we still started eating it. It gets worse. 2nd piece I had I realized the meat had greenish hue. Im no expert but that either means spoilage or long exposure to heat. The waitress told us the chef explained that it’s their marinade which makes no sense if only a few areas were green and the center of the pieces….
Ughhhh I can’t even go on…
Update-I stand corrected. Now I’d take the 1 star Off if I could. Instead of owning your errors you question a customers ability to decipher what I ordered? What a joke. I clearly ordered Dan Dan, and had no other noodle dish so then that means your staff brought the wrong noodles out? Check your facts before going into defense mode. Also in some random twist your right about the marinade turning your duck green in certain pieces, that doesn’t help the fact that a good portion of the skin was burnt and internally dried out.
Just be glad I didn’t take photos, and only because it wasn’t...
