I want to start off by saying how much I appreciated my stylist taking ample time to chat with me about my hair and what I was going for before getting started. She really gave me a great consult and I wish more stylists would learn from her on how to take their time. Additionally, I went in with a mess of a haircut from a prior stylist, so it was impressive how my stylist was able to give it a better shape and cut. I wasn’t thrilled how flat my hair looked leaving the salon, but I figured that was because of the product that was weighing it down. However, even after washing with a clarifying shampoo, my hair feels lifeless and it lost the cute wave it had due to what I believe is over-texturizing (thinning) by my stylist.
For as great as a consultation as we had, I wish we’d discussed the plan to texturize and remove almost all of the weight from my hair, because I’m firmly against both those things being done. I believe I’d mentioned that I like my ends to feel heavy and blunt, but I should’ve been clearer and expressed my dislike of thinning shears from the get go. It makes me feel very depressed, like I’ve lost a lot of hair, especially from the crown area and sides. Additionally, it makes my bleached hair appear more damaged, as well as makes it more prone to split ends.
All this to say, I really liked my stylist and thought she was very nice to take so much time with me and work me in last minute. But, I think it’s important for both stylists and clients to discuss potential texturizing/removal of weight beforehand because it’s not everyone’s preference to have wispy ends and their hair completely thinned out. I spend big bucks on hair growth supplements and products specifically to thicken hair. For those of us who have experienced hair loss, it’s a particularly touchy issue. I would’ve said something, but I didn’t notice she was using thinning shears until half my haircut was nearly done.
I can tell my stylist was talented — I would still go to her. It’s just that next time I would be very clear to take thinning/weight removal completely off the table. I’m lucky I have chin-length hair, so I can hopefully remedy the thinning with trims and a good hair care routine within a...
Read moremy experience with Cris was really gender affirming and comfortable!
i haven’t gotten my hair cut outside in 3 years, and i’ve never gotten a haircut at a place that is gender-affirming before so i was excited!! i have wavy/curly hair and i went in for a trim on my overgrown sort-of mullet but wasn’t sure what i wanted beyond that. i felt like i could be honest about my uncertainty and Cris would ask me questions and explained some options what he could do.
Cris took his time through the haircut to check with me if this is what i wanted, if i wanted to adjust anything, etc, and i felt more comfortable sharing about adjustments than i ever have at other shops. we had fun chats about life too!
i felt seen getting my haircut, having my pronouns and name being used and just more safe and comfortable in my body :’) i really appreciated that everyone was masked for our community’s/each other’s safety

Firstly, the environment is phenomenal here! Every single stylist who wasn’t with a customer made sure to check on me and say hello while I waited for Sara. There was also three incredible dogs which is always a plus!
When I sat down in Sara’s chair, I told her she had full creative control. To my relief, she was extremely excited to do so. She laid out a great explanation about her ideas and why it would work with my specific hair. That is something I really appreciated. She also gave me a bunch of direction with how to style/maintain my look which was so nice because sometimes I feel clueless about what products I should be using.
My only very, very small complaint is the time of the cut. She finished in less than 15 minutes and for a $100+ haircut I feel like it should take more time and have slightly more attention to detail. I like having a full experience, especially at that price point.
I’m grasping at straws, though. Sara was incredibly kind and gave me a new look that I really really love. What more do you really need when visiting the salon?
I highly recommend Hairrari—I promise you will leave happy with...
