My wife and I rehearsed before we showed up on Mother’s Day for brunch. As soon as we arrived at the order counter, I was going to say “Honey” and she was going to respond with “Hi.” And then I assumed that would get us a discount. It couldn’t have gone better. I said “Honey” and she said “Hi” which I immediately followed with “Do we get a discount.” Without missing a bit, the person behind the cash register said “Yes. You are the owner now.” Hurrah! We did it!
Honey Hi has nothing but gluten free items and no refined sugar. That means you don’ have to ask. It’s definitely gluten free. Don’t even bother. (We know we’ve all had that experience at the 99 Cents Only Store asking their stuff how much different items cost…just for fun.) EVERYTHING is gluten free…the breads, the toast, the pancakes. You’re good.
We had the Chocolate Shake - well our kid had it and he loved it.
I thought the coffee was pretty good.
I also had the Eggs and Toast (which incidentally was gluten free…) along with a side of Sweet Potato Hash. The eggs were perfectly cooked and the texture of the bread was, well, very bread-like.
I’m not a huge fan of sweet potatoes in place of where ‘regular’ potatoes should go (ie hash, fries, etc) so I didn’t necessarily love this so much, but my wife who IS a huge fan of sweet potatoes in place of where ‘regular’ potatoes should go loved it.
She had the Pesto Avocado Toast and was a big fan of that whole experience.
We also all shared the last available (at least the last visible available) chocolate chip cookie which we thought did a great job of pretending to be a non-gluten free cookie.
It’s a tiny place with very few tables…we had no problem finding one and this was during Sunday brunch time (high season for this kind of food) as many people were taking their food and drinks to go…so the size of the place wasn’t really an issue in practice for us.
As the new owners (hahaha, we’re kidding, see first paragraph if this is confusing) we are proud of the quality, presentation and taste of the food at Honey Hi. We’ll...
Read moreJust, wow. In LA for a week w my GF son so I scouted the places to eat that our hometown Houston lacks.
This was our last stop prior to going home and I’m so glad we made it because it was the culinary highlight of our trip.
As a sourdough enthusiast, loved that our breakfast came with the yummy buckwheat sourdough. My only add would be to serve with butter and maybe some interesting jam because buckwheat breads can be less moist and the butter they did put on was a bit too little. The bread was great though!
My son did eggs and bacon and he thought the soft scramble was a perfect execution. I did the eggs baked with the red sauce and added sausage and the sheep’s cheese (worth the add!) and the dish was an easy ten.
The guy who took our order was a doll and helped me decide what to get from the fifty things I wanted to try. The manager came around to say hi. Helpful smiles everywhere.
I’m in this happy space and then I see the record that started it all on the wall - Buckingham Nicks. I feel this connection to this wonderful space and the people I’ve never met who made this great food and chose to display this one (1) record on the wall. This would have been my one record also.
Then I wonder about the name of the place and the sweet little song from Tusk...guess it could be!
From Texas, thanks y’all! See...
Read moreWe were in town for leisure and after finding out that our go to breakfast place was closed, we did a quick search for something nearby. That is how we came across Honey Hi. My two teenagers and I got there right when they opened. The neighborhood looked "interesting" as we come from a much more rural part of California. The restaurant was quaint and clean. Very simple and welcoming. We were greeted right away and the staff was kind and attentive without being overly so. I always look for places that actually prepare their food. I'm not a fan at all of commercially prepared food. The three of us ordered a variety of items from the menu. The meals came out quickly and presented well. Not only were all three of us very happy with our meals, we were equally happywith the drink offerings. The price was reasonable for what you get. I enjoyed my meal so much that I have already told family, friends and colleagues. The lamb and beef sausage, Buckwheat toast and my eggs really stood out. Fantastic. As a chef and current restaurant owner, Honey Hi is a great example of why we do what we do. Keep it up and we'll...
