If you’re coming here just for the playground: don’t. It’s a dirty park riddled with gangbangers and thugs. Often, the parking is very crowded, and it’s difficult to find a space.
On the plus side, the LA Parks recreation classes side is above average, and there’s a lot of offerings for children. The rock climbing class though was the best! Some classes, like this one, are held off site, so for $10, this small class of 6 children had access to an indoor rock climbing gym for which other parents pay 10x’s more. Several of the teachers are admirably committed, and they see our children as future sports champions. The tennis coach reminds the kids that this skill could pay for college. We’ve done soccer, swimming, tennis, martial arts, track, and rock climbing with Lanark, all with excellent instructors.
The only problems I’ve had in the classes were with other parents, some of whom allow their small children to run with balls in the middle of martial arts class, so we’re constantly having to stop for these distractions. Others of these feral parents allow their offspring to bully other kids.
If you’re able to overlook the vatos hanging out on the benches, smoking weed and playing trap music,; and if you can find a parking space, Lanark is a decent park for...

Shards of sharp broken plastic scattered around, including in the sand where kids run barefoot. Discarded food and drink containers, including glass, everywhere and breeding flies. Overflowing trash cans. There's trash on the play structures, all through the grass, just everywhere. We've started driving to parks that are further away from our home because as often as not the playground is too filthy to play in.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: Really big park with a lot of nice shade trees, baseball diamonds, a skate park, a soccer field for a kids' program, swimming pool, some basketball hoops, bathrooms, and a playground. Unfortunately, there's a lot of litter, even though there are plenty of trash cans. Also, the sun shades for the kids playground are tiny and ineffective, so the slides and metal structures get really hot. I like bringing my kid here, but the play structure isn't usable on hot, sunny days. I wish they'd add more shades for...
