I drove 2.5 hours to go to this store to buy corals for my tank. Upon arrival I was really impressed and excited with the huge selection of corals to choose from. Whilst looking an employee informed me that she was removing the sale prices and to grab things before the prices went up. First of all I don’t like being put under pressure like that especially when spending a lot of money on something I’m going to be living with for a long time! I was repeatedly asked if I’d made a decision. After taking some time I had my eye on one particular piece along with quite a few others. When I asked the price I was told that I needed to make a decision on that one and that they couldn’t sell me any others as they were going on Facebook Live at 6:00 PM. I was looking at 4:30 PM!!! The owner came over and started explaining about Facebook Live and that I could go on at 6:00 PM to buy any of the others. Why would I do that when I’m in your store?!?!?! I didn’t drive 2.5 hours to buy on Facebook... not only that... I don’t have a Facebook account!!!! He said he would sell me that one piece if I wanted it but that was it. Talk about being put under pressure and in what world does a store refuse to sell to a customer in their store that has cold hard cash to spend... especially during a pandemic?!?!? Needless to say I turned down the one piece that he was so willing to sell me and I walked away. He came to find me to explain the Facebook Live to me again. He was clearly stressed getting ready for this event. I tried to explain to him that I had driven 2.5 hours to buy from him so to be told that I couldn’t buy was simply ridiculous! Each time I tried to talk he was so rude and just interrupted and talked over me... he didn’t want to listen and was more concerned about his Facebook Live than a live customer with a lot of money to spend. I’ll never step foot in this place again and took my business elsewhere. I took to Google and found a small aquarium right after I left and had a completely different experience. The owner could not do enough to help me. He was so accommodating, didn’t pressure me into buying and gave me a free coral because I’d spent so much money with him. THAT is good and smart customer service and I’ll return to that business because of that. Focus on who is in your store... they are usually there to spend money and with a good experience most people will remain loyal to...
Read moreDespite all of the touristy places I could take family to when they visit, I strangely find myself wanting to bring them here. Sharks, stingrays, octopi, lionfish, eels, this place is comparable to a public aquarium, and it’s probably why I find myself there frequently just to look at the fish. Nobody says no to a saltwater tank store with a restaurant + game room 5 minutes from the airport.
This was the 9th place I’d been to around LA looking for a tank. One month later and I have a thriving 65 gallon saltwater tank filled with fish and invertebrates. It takes a certain level of restraint for a business to tell me to slow down and be patient on buying up their fish too quickly. I also don’t feel pressured into buying an Apex system or other over-the-top equipment for a tank my size. I respect their knowledge of my setup and compatible fish species, and have been stopped from buying certain fish before by Chris and one other employee because they were incompatible with my inhabitants or size. I’m confident enough with this store to hold off on getting a quarantine tank, since I’ve seen firsthand how a sick fish (nothing serious) was quarantined and cared for. The fish turnover rate here is incredible, every time I visit there are new options. Another underrated thing that took me a while to realize is how unbelievable sanitary and smell-free the place is (other aquatic stores in LA PLEASE take note).
I’d give LAX aquarium a perfect rating both as a trustworthy source of livestock, and an awesome aquarium to look at fish with others. I’ll post better tank photos once it gets out of its...
