I used this mode of transportation (the METRO lite-rail, subway ) first as I was preparing to serve on Jury Duty at one of the courts in downtown Los Angeles. Having previously tried to navigate the drive from & back to the San Fernando Valley into Downtown L.A. during rush hour - I had absolutely NO desire to experience the stress & that emotional drain. Friends who had done it before (& liked the stress-free side of using it) talked me into giving it a try. As long as your lite-rail stop is near your destination (& it is for the courts) taking the METRO makes soooo very much sense. Mind you, safety is a concern when riding public transportation, so riding when many other people are traveling helps you feel safe. In early mornings, I saw quite a few street- people who slept on the train overnight & just rode until they woke up. Some seemed fine, but others were "sketchy" , so I decided to follow friends' advice and to not ride later AR night.
Mornings, for-pay parking spaces at the North Hollywood station are limited. There are more reserved spots there for "monthly parking pass" patrons than for day-customers. Unless you have oaid for monthly parking or if you can wait until after 10:00 am, when any leftover empty spaces become available, you'd better plan to arrive early to park, or you just won't find it. (METRO had previously planned to build a big parking structure near the station, but I havn't seen if there is any progress toward that. "Hey METRO, if you want to increase ridership, then you're going to have to make it easier for your commuters. How about building some more of those "for-pay" parking...
Read moreMetro redline has changed to worse in the past 2 years, specially after state closed down some sheltors, all those homeless people are scattered around, residing in trains. Police dep. Took over the metro system in redline situation & they care less. compared to Sherif dep. Very dirty, bad smells, weed smokers everywhere, unsafe environment, no parking convenience for daily commuters, after they changed the policy to monthly parking. Everything is heading to worsen our life in L.A. police dep. Is interested only in checking the tap cards for those who are in the work force, for those who pay taxes. You go into the train, in every car you see at least 3_4 homelesses fallen sleep, smell bad & very unpleasant seens. Police dep. Is not interested in forcing the law & other metro policies inside the train. Can't find enough words to express this bad situation. I don't know why we the people who lift the state via our tax dollars are not respected & ignored Those who dont pay taxes, deserved...
