While looking for a place to stay at LA for 2 months and a half, me and my friends found Zuma Housing. I did't have any problems with them until my very last month at US. Our problem involved the fee we receive back after the move out if the apartment is ok. In my contract, it was saying that my check out day was going to be on July 31st, but I had to make an earlier check out, which is possible. Then, me and a friend of me decided to go there in person to warn them that we would have to move earlier, and they said that it was ok, and then they asked us how we would like to receive our money back, because they had 2 options: we could receive the money into our bank account after 21 days at least, or we could pay 100 dollars fee to receive the money as a check right after returning the keys to them. Both options are abusive. The first one was out of question because I was actually moving to Portugal right after my trip back to Brazil, and 21 days after my move out, my American bank account would be closed already, and my Brazilian bank account would also be closed, because I was actually going to move to Portugal, and I probably won't have any Portuguese account, as I was going to live there for a short period of time, and even though, even if my Brazilian account would be open, who would guarantee that they would put the money into my bank account? The 2nd option is abusive because it's insane to pay 100 dollars for an early check out, this doesn't exist in any other company in the world, and also it wasn't WRITTEN IN THE CONTRACT, AND IT WASN'T PERMITTED OR PROTECTED BY THE LAW. Before going home, we made an appointment with the owner of the company. In the other day, me and friend were there for the appointment, but he wasn't able to talk to us at that time, which was very rude with us, and then we had to talk to another person called LELAINA. (I should have refused me to talk to any other person that was not him). We explained her all the situation, and she was not flexible at all with us, saying that we had only those 2 options, and that was it. She treated us very rudely, and she raised the voice with us several times, she cut the conversation several times, that is, she was not allowing me to talk, and she almost drove us out. Those things were stressing me out, and I told her I was going to contact my lawyer in the US (I did have one), or the police. She laughed at me when I said that (probably she did it because she knew I was an international student, and because of that, we all know that we don't have resources and power, and also because or English is not that good). i told her that she could put the money into my bank account, but I would like to have the receipt before going home. I left the place right away, and I decided not to call the police or contact my lawyer for 2 reasons: I was involved in a lawsuit in Brazil already, and also because I was going to another country, to far from the US. After a couple of days, I called the company, with cool head, and LELAINA answered the phone. One more time she was rude, and she was not flexible again, saying that she wouldn't make the inspection earlier for me, and that she would follow the 21 days policy. In the other day, I went to Zuma Housing to talk in person to her, and she said she had an emergency, and that she had to go. In the next day, I was at home solving some problems, and my roommate (the one who used to share the bedroom with me) told me that LELAINA was going to make the inspection for her, and I was like "why she can't do the same if we live in the same bedroom?", so when she arrived there, I talked to her, and one more time, she said "no", claiming that the owner would answer my email, and actually he did, saying the same things as her. In the other day, I talked in person with the owner, and he apologized me several times when I told her how rude LELAINA was with me and my friends, and he gave me the check right away, but also he charged me for a dirty floor, which was also insane, because it was dirty with hair on the floor only....
Read moreZuma Housing has been an amazing experience for me. Their Management is amazingly responsive and really cares about your comfort in the housing space. Any and all requests are listened to sympathetically and responded to with reasonable effort taken to guarantee satisfaction. Their support teams are absolutely amazing and very very helpful.
My biggest example: I moved in a month ago, and this was my first time living alone, so I was understandably nervous. I'd been assigned an attic space as a room, and I'd seen pictures, but due to my own oversight, I was blindsided by the fact that the space had no door. I contacted Eren Buken, who was my Zuma Management contact, and he was very sympathetic to my uneasiness regarding my bedroom's doorlessness and assigned a team to help me. Within the month, a new door was installed, and a half wall was literally built in order to ensure my privacy.
This has been backed up by a dozen other small requests which have been fulfilled promptly and helpfully - everything from mounting a tv, to fixing a bulb.
I am 100% satisfied with my living space as well - my bedroom is cozy and comfortable, and though the living space is utilitarian, it gets the job done, as it is meant to.
It has honestly been a great experience. I love my room, and the general supportiveness of the atmosphere really lives up to Zuma's initial promise to us, that they'd take care of the muss and fuss of the living space, so that we could focus on what bought us here. (which makes this sound like a paid review (which it is not!!) but honestly, this has been on my mind since I started having my extended encounter with the management team regarding my...
Read moreIt was quite painfull to find an apartment in westwood area since UCLA is a big university with bunch of students. As an international student my chance to get a good location was below average since the language and culture was brand new for me. I saw Zuma office right on Westwood blvd and got in to get information. Very nice Asian girl helped me out with my 1st apartment. 3 things I wanted to make sure was the price, location and the apartment condition. I chose 2 apartments to see next day and left the office. The frustating part was that the next day one of the places i wanted to see was already booked and they canceled the showing. Luckily the one left was ok for me and i moved in following week. My lease agreement was sent to me electronically to my email and using google translator was good to make sure about what I was signing. During my stay i was shocked to see a smoking fine attached to my door with my name on it and if they did not help with waiving it this review would be a different one as i am not a smoker. Zuma people are all students or newly grads of UCLA which makes things better when you want to go talk to them. Last month i moved out and got a 35 dollars cleaning charge out of my deposit. I wanted to wait to evaluate them until i got my deposit. So overall they made things easier and i am still with contact with them everytime i make my way to westwood. My advice is to go to the office and talk to them spefically if you get any smoking or party notice. Also make sure report maintanence problems right away even it does...
