TLDR: hot food is 4/5 (anything with chili = flavor) Customer service depends on whose working and how busy they can be. Great place to work inside if you need outlet too
Vibe - plenty of outlets inside - 7 two seaters tables near bench and one near window
6 smallish 2 seaters round tables outside with 3 umbrellas
Customer service 3.8/5: You order at the kiosk on the wall or when not busy - with them. Realize the kiosk order is like the bluestone app
Customer service hit or miss depending on whose working. I can use without the sass of the second time coming of a London fog being 10$ - just say you can’t make it instead. It was 7am and a simple question dude. Worked in service 7 years so I get people have grumpy mornings but that’s no excuse too.
First time around they were amazing at 7am though! (Girl with pink hair was great) So really it depends
Food: 1-bad 3-average 5- amazing/wow
3.5/5 oatmeal - let it sit before eating it so the oats can soak up the steamed milk 3.9/5 Chia seeds pudding - I prefer mine a little less thick but good with toppings. They give you a good chunk of almond butter if you like it! (Personally I don’t like too much almond butter, it overpowers the flavors) 4.5/5 Egg and arugula Sandwiches W/Chili and Dill Mayo - put the chili on the sandwiches and thank me later. The mayo is light and good itself but add the spices (not hot spicy) of chili it’s great 3.9/5 Burrito is how you would imagine it with avó and bacon and salad etc. great combo if you like it I would get it - other than that, nothing I would say WOW 3.5/5Avó toast - basic and avg, better with chili on top if you can, adds more flavor and depth 3.5/5Banana bread - pretty simple nothing too special but if you like those combo, go for it! 3.3/5Strawberry and raspberry bread - strawberry slices too thin and the ratio of butter and bread was too overpowering I didn’t taste anything
Nothing OUT OF THE WORLD GREAT BUT it’s good for a...
Read moreThere are a lot of coffee shops in LA where you will feel judged for ordering anything less complicated than a "single-origin Ethiopian pour-over with notes of existential bamboo." But Bluestone Lane in Westwood? Simple and delicious.
First off, they've got these two guys running the place – Joseph and Eli – who are like the buddy cops of coffee shop we didn't know we needed. Joseph is on top of your order like he's got some kind of savant-level coffee obsession, while Eli's over there making drink recommendations like he's reading your tarot. I'm telling you, these guys might be missing their calling as coffee cult leaders.
Now let me tell you about their Matcha Banana Cream foam thing. Holy sh*!. It's like if matcha and banana Fosters had a baby, and that baby was raised by Willy Wonka. I drank it so fast I almost sucked my own face inside out through the straw. I'm not even ashamed. Though I will say, Bluestone Lane stocks the kind of paper straws that lost Joe Biden, the election. These things disintegrate after the first sip and you end up, sucking on them like you’re underwater struggling for air.
Also let’s talk about the location: Prime real estate for what some might call "people watching." The parade of pretty that walks by this place is better than downtown LA during fashion week. I am 100% sure the number of attractive people per capita diverges from the national average college campus. And I didn’t even go to college. I could tell one tourist dude was just sitting there thinking, “attractive” must be a UCLA prerequisite.
So yeah, five stars for the coffee, another five for Joseph and Eli's whole vibe, and about seventeen more for giving me front-row seats to the unofficial Westwood fashion show. My therapist is trying to discourage me from spending eight hours a day here, but what does she know? She still drinks...
Read moreMy husband and I visited Bluestone Lane very shortly after it opened in the morning, and unfortunately our experience was very concerning. There was only one young gentleman working that day, and he seemed completely overwhelmed.
As someone currently undergoing treatment at UCLA and immune compromised, I pay close attention to food safety. While preparing our food, this employee never wore gloves, handled my meal directly out of the toaster with his bare hands, and repeatedly ran his fingers through his hair before touching food again. This showed a complete lack of understanding of basic food hygiene and safety standards.
On top of that, the café was severely understaffed, which may explain some of the issues, but it does not excuse them. Regardless of whether a customer is immune compromised or not, food should always be prepared following proper safety guidelines.
Until staff are properly trained in safe food handling and hygiene, I cannot recommend...
