I am here as an attendee of the 2023 SETAC NA conference, and in the short time i’ve been here, I have witnessed and been a part of multiple highly unprofessional interactions between security staff and conference attendees. The first night of attendance, after all present had verified their registration for the conference, we had to display our badges a second time to get into the reception. The staff checking badges began yelling at the person next to me because he left his badge elsewhere and wouldn’t let him enter. Sure you need a badge to get in but do you need to scream? Secondly, upon trying to renter the conference center after lunch, security again screamed without warning to tell me I had to enter at the front entrance. The staff also had no clear uniform identifying themself and was far away from the entrance. Whoever is training the security staff should consider instruction on professionalism, because this must be completely absent. This is not TSA or a Justin Bieber concert, No one is trying to sneak into an environmental toxicology conference. I know people are doing their jobs, but the methods are unprofessional, and policies are not communicated effectively. It’s unfortunate, as I’ve grown up in the south and know this is not an accurate reflection of hospitality you normally experience here. But this makes us all look bad to other regional and international attendees, of which there are many at this conference. If I am ever involved with the planning of any future SETAC or other conferences, I will not suggest to...
Read moreI just attended the 2022-2023 National Senior Beta Convention and this year, it was in Louisville at the KICC. This was my last one as I'm now officially a Beta alumni. While I had fun at Nationals, I don't think the Beta Club should EVER give the KICC their business again. They called security on our club because they failed to inform us that they had changed scheduling and practice time was ending. Not only that, but rather than approaching our sponsor, they approached individual children and forced us to stand on the sidewalk without adults and barely allowed our sponsor to put up our props and instruments. They threatened to ban us from the convention center the next morning because we used an outlet for our practice and told our sponsor, "[we] don't pay [their] electric bills." TO that I say, does our business not pay the bills? Would the KICC be able to pay their bills without customers? I don't think so. They locked the doors less than 15 minutes after one of our competitions, the Group Talent Prelims, ended-despite the fact that hundreds of students, sponsors, and family members were still in the building, and many were still changing our of costumes, putting up props and instruments, and otherwise preparing to leave. The workers, the security guards, and the managers were nearly all extremely disrespectful and rude. I would not recommend that anyone host a convention there, especially since there is another, much larger convention center...
Read moreThe Kentucky International Convention Center in lovely Louisville. Stepping through those towering glass doors at the corner of Fourth and Main you can feel the buzz of activity amid the soaring atrium. This place truly is the beating heart of downtown on any given day.
With over 500,000 square feet of prime convention space the KICC can accommodate any sized gathering from a trade show to a political rally. I've stopped by many an event over the years, checking out the latest gadgets at TecHORM or noshing on samples at the Bourbon & Brew Fest. It's always impressive to see how they configure the vast open floors depending on the needs of each group.
Right outside finds you in the center of Louisville's business district, a short stroll from our favorite local eating and drinking spots. When you need a break from the convention hustle and bustle you can grab a bourbon milkshake at Holy Grale or catch a game at the bars near Fourth Street Live. And of course no visit is complete without taking in a show at the Kentucky Center or Kentucky Derby Museum, both just around the corner.
The KICC crew always does an outstanding job hosting. Whether you're organizing or attending an event, their seamless service and attention to detail will make it a success. It's no wonder they keep bringing people back to Louisville year after year. This convention center is truly a landmark...
