Staff was friendly, helpful, and made me feel comfortable shopping there (as a raggedy poor boy looking for clearance rack stuff and a very specific pair of suspenders). They helped me find exactly what I was looking for, gave me valuable feedback on the fit, and took care to help me search out all the clearance racks in the store and find other garments that suited my needs and my budget.
Duluth puts their mark on some high functioning garments that are ergonomically superior to others in their class, IMO. Gussets and a nylon/duck cotton blend make their workwear pants and overalls so much more comfortable and practical than their competitors, and at a similar price point (pants 85, overalls 120). Their lightweight nylon blended clothes (branded as "armachillo" ) are a rare breed that actually feel comfortable in the blistering tropical hellscape of the Ohio river valley. If you consistently work in the sun, you will eventually find that avoiding heat stroke ultimately depends on staying covered from head to toe, and Duluth delivers with their armachillo offerings, some which even include a balaclava type hood/mask perfect for farm and garden work where wood chips, resins, fuel, and dust are always sputtering about, assailing your money maker. This fabric also washes out and wrings out easy, drying quickly. If you've ever had to scramble to get your clothes clean before they mildew (If you know, you know) investing in one of these garments will get you hooked.
Duluth also carries some other reputable brands which I have sought out in the past. Classic heritage-typeThoroughgood Boots are tough, resoleable, and Union Made in the USA. Among their other offerings is, in my opinion, the most practical EDC flashlight on the market.
Duluth is also positioned in the heart of downtown Louisville, its physical location a tangible representation of an ethos that affords them the 'bespoke' market share they hold so well. As an urban-dwelling, DIY-ing, jack-of-whatever, I graciously applaude any purveyour of goods or services that doesn't require me to brave Hoosier infested waters or...
Read moreI’ve ordered online from Duluth many times. But as they’ve continued to buildout retail stores I’ve become a fan of shopping instore. I like ordering online because there’s no pesky store clerks to deal with. But with Duluth, I’m starting to think differently.
I’m probably not their target customer. I mainly buy t-shirts from Duluth. And as of now, they make the best t-shirts and they are priced right and are exceptional quality. ( In the past, that wasn’t always the case. )
But I decided to try some of their pants. Their pants are more expensive than the Wrangler’s I’ve been buying at Walmart. I decided it was time for a real pair of pants instead of the wear one season and throw away kind. ( You can buy the same size and style of pants from Wrangler and they fit differently. ) But I found the Duluth selection confusing. Finally I decided it was best to visit a store and try and make heads or tails out of the different fabrics and styles.
I proceeded to the Louisville store one day recently. The sales people in the Duluth stores are the best. I found a female associate back in the pants area. I told her some of the basics I was looking for and she proceeded to take me from place to place in the store schooling me up on the features, benefits and fit of their various pants. She really knew her stuff. What a great asset she is to Duluth.
I ended up with the DuluthFlex Fire hose Coolmax Cargo pant. Perfect for an old fat guy who needs a little flex in his life.
BTW - There is a public parking garage across the street east of the Aloft. Yes folks it downtown and you might have to pay to park. OMG ! This lot is easy. You pull in, get a ticket and then pay at the machine in the lobby before exiting. There are several other public parking lots nearby. ( It’s cheaper to park than pay freight on an internet order. Of course FREE shipping on orders of...
Read moreMy previous transactions with Duluth have been online. This transaction was a Ship To Store, so I could receive free shipping. I was excited about this option. My item arrived within the timeline given, and it was the correct item and color. Good, so far. However, parking in downtown Louisville was ATROCIOUS due to so much construction and renovation in the area. When I finally got inside the actual store, I was greeted by a friendly older gentleman. He directed me to the register for pick up. There were 2 cashiers and they were both serving customers, so I was next. This took longer than necessary as both cashiers were slow and appeared untrained in how to operate the registers, or even basic policies and procedures. Everything felt belabored. I finally got to a register and the lady seemed to not understand that I had a store pick up or what it was - i.e., I suggested that she would probably need my name to find the right item in the back, etc. She seemed to agree and fumbled for almost 2 minutes to find a scrap of paper to write down my name. (!!!) Then, she passed the chore off to the first gentleman I had encountered. He seemed to know better about what he needed to do, but bless his heart, he was totally winded and looked stressed by the time he got back to me. If you are in a time crunch, I do not recommend going to the brick and mortar store. You may find yourself feeling frustrated at the ineptness inside. Their online department is excellent, but these employees need more training, a cognitive skills assessment, and some caffeine,...
