We visited recently and it was great. Such rich musical history from the Southern Rock era all in one location. I'm so glad it's been revitalized by Mercer for future generations to enjoy. On the day we visited, the studio portion was in use, so not open for tours. Only the museum portion was. Upstairs is great. Kinda small but packed with photos, memorabilia and the music listening stations. (Really cool - digitized Capricorn music catalog there for your listening enjoyment via headphones)
Bob, the person on staff that day was so welcoming and informative. Really a gracious host!
Well, as it turned out, just as we finished our time in the upstairs museum, Bob grabbed us and told us that the band was in a break, so if we wanted, he could give us a really quick tour if the studio portion.
He was so inviting and really knowledgeable about the studio. He told us that the main room of the studio had not changed since 1972. Same carpet, drapes, lighting - everything! The goal was to try to retain some of the same vibe from the days of the classic music recorded there by the Allman Brothers, Marshall Tucker Band, Little Feat, Wet Willie, etc. While our studio tour was brief, it was so nice of him to take the time to do it. We also spoke with a few of the musicians and studio staff. They were really great as well. We'll hopefully get to go back for the full studio tour someday. Thanks to Bob and everyone else there for making our visit even more awesome! Highly...
Read moreMe and my guys included The Capricorn in our "Allman Brothers" day in Macon. We paid $7 and went upstairs to the "museum". In reality it was a listening room where you could listen to Capricorns library of (I think) 7000 songs. Which is cool I guess.
I'm not sure what I was expecting but, that was not it. So... Back downstairs where we talked to the employee. I told him that was the quickest I'd ever spent $7. So, he took us on the studio tour. Studio B was cool but then he took us into Studio A. This was an amazing experience. Just knowing musical greats such as The Allman Brothers Band, Otis Redding, The Rolling Stones, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Wet Willie and soooo many more had recorded there just made the experience. If you're a music fan, in particular a Southern Rock fan, this has to be on your bucket list. Fortunately for me, it's only an hour...
Read moreWe drove through Macon on our way to Savannah from Atlanta with no idea what to do. My husband is a music lover, so on the drive I found that Capricorn Studios had a museum and active studio in the area. We stopped by and are SO happy we did! They have a small museum and gift shop which were very interesting, but what really made the experience is that we were lucky enough to get a tour from the WONDERFUL gentleman at the museum who snuck is back when the recording clients were on a break. It was BY FAR one of the coolest studios we have seen, especially since it is practically a time-capsule. Highly recommend a stop if you love music and are interested in...
