I would rate 0 star if I could because a library is suppose to be a community resource that isn't exclusive. Libraries get government funding for that very reason. They should be there to help the community. So if someone can't use a computer because they owe a fine when that is the only place to print use internet if you are poor they can't apply for jobs and they can't bring their documents to the food stamp office or other place since they can't go to their community resource. Fines happen for many reasons....especially when you get books for kids but to not let someone use a computer to apply for jobs or print off important stuff is cruel for a place that receives government funding. I understand when you can't rent books but to not even be able to use the computer is ridiculous. Limit their time or something so you know they aren't doing anything but something important. It excludes a huge group of people that literally need that resource to get better for themselves. If they get better for themselves maybe they can pay the fine but how are they suppose to if they can't even get a job by going to their community resource to apply online. Libraries are needed for struggling people. The wealthy can buy their own books can afford internet and can afford a printer. If I'm struggling to get food even do you really think I have...
Read moreI love this library! I have too much time on my hands and I'd probably lose my mind if I didn't have anything to read.
I've gotten several books through Interlibrary Loans. The people who do the ILL are always very nice and friendly and seem eager to help you. I requested one book that was hard to get. The librarian, Angie Wright, kept trying for weeks and finally got it for me. I think she was as happy to get it for me as I was to get it. These librarians are so friendly and helpful!
I also read a lot of books through Libby. Marion Public Library is part of the Indiana Digital Library where almost 200 libraries share their digital content. If MPL doesn't have a certain book there's a good chance you can borrow it from Libby. I've looked at my loan history in Libby and realized that my kids and I have had hundreds of loans since 2018. Some of those were magazines I can't afford to subscribe to anymore. Plus so many books I can't afford to buy. It's fantastic and I'm so happy that libraries are able to do this. It costs money for a library to be a part of IDL and they pay for it for us.

Read moreThroughout this pandemic, the library has continued to remain open to the public in order to provide assistance to students who are distance learning. Private study rooms and public WiFi have really been beneficial to those who are most in need of a way to connect to the area schools, and plans are under way to add more study rooms in the near future. In addition, new study materials and books are being added as well as the regular features offered by the library. Marion is very fortunate to have such a caring library staff dedicated...
