Sargent's Fine Art — Attraction in Maui

My girlfriend and I traveled to Maui from Portland, Oregon for a weeks vacation in Feb 2014. We took a day to drive to Lahaina for some dinner and walk through the town. We stopped by Sargents to take a look at some artwork. As we were strolling through the studio Julie the sales person started to chat with us about the paintings of wine art by a famous artist. We had no plans to purchase any art at the time. As we walked through the studio she followed us around and pulled us into a private room to put some added lighting on a couple paintings we were looking at. She then popped open a bottle of wine and offered us a glass and then another. And then told us about a special promotion to throw in a small painting by the same artist with the purchase of the larger one. Long story short and a pretty good buzz after the wine she poured, we purchased the painting. It was to be shipped from another location directly to my home in Portland. We got back to our hotel that night and realized that we were in no shape to be making a purchase like that and that is was something we should not do. I then tried to contact Julie the next day to let her know and left a message. After no response the rest of the day I called the studio and talked to her boss or the owner and told him the situation and he said Julie was off that day and she would have to discuss that with me. I sent an email explaining the above and she responded a day or 2 later with " I feel you purchased the painting in good faith and therefor you cannot back out". I contacted my credit card company a few days later but they were unable to cancel. This is really sad that there are people out there that are more concerned about there commission than their reputation !!. I visited Sargent’s Fine Art in December of ‘17 and had an absolutely wonderful experience! The art itself was stunning, with a wide variation offered in a beautiful setting. There seemed to be a good mix of local and national artists featured, and I was very impressed to see one of their local “featured artists” painting in-house on a Friday night. The staff was polite, patient, and helpful. Though we did not purchase anything during our visit, the sales staff was very helpful and understood that we were only browsing while on vacation. However, when we do return to Maui, I would love to visit again, this time with hopes to buy! My girlfriend and I enjoyed our visit to Sargent’s Fine Art much more than any of the other galleries along the Lahaina strip, and she also visited the adjoining jewelry store and bought a beautiful pair of earrings. Great gallery. We have purchased a few paintings from Sargents every time we have been to Maui. Very nice selection of paintings from Bob Pejman (especially his Lake Como Series...which we own 2 of). Also my other favorite is a Russian artist by the name of Victor Bregeda. Not only do they have great art, but they are very professional in terms of having the art framed and shipped as they promise.

A note to the previous review by Bruce from Portand OR: Every time we bought a painting, we sat in the same viewing room and a few times, the gallery staff offered us a glass of wine. They are very nice and hospitable. But no one twisted our arms to buy from them. We have been thrilled with each purchase and our home has been enriched.
