Maui Paradise Lāhainā — Local services in Maui

Looks like many had good experiences at this store and while I’m sure that may be the case, it definitely was not for myself.

Personally I was looking for some items for a few events I’d be attending while on vacation with my family. I noticed one of the employees watching me and them getting closer as I looked thru items. It got so uncomfortable that I finally asked was everything ok. She remarked “yes.” I said u need to back up as ur making me uncomfortable as close as u are. She said her manager makes them do so. I looked around the store and noticed at least 7-8 other individuals rummaging I’m different areas and said why aren’t u focusing on others in the same manner as me, no response. I felt the only reason was due to one keen difference, my skin color!

In the end I took all the items that I was about to purchase, some $300+ and said never mind just keep ur stuff and I’ll find another business who’d show me a different level of respect.

As a black man who’s traveled all over and been in many situations I know racism and inappropriate behavior. I just don’t believe in acceptance of bs. Try more to not express racist/stereotypical behavior as it truly can hurt ur...

I bought a lifeguard hoody from them last week, sized small, and I tried it on, it was nice and baggy (I am 5'6, 135lbs). I wore it a couple of times, washed it alone, on cold, and dried it alone on low. There were no instructions for wash on the hoody. The hoody has shrunk substantially, the arms were half way up on my fore arms and the front print had almost completely came off. I took it back to ask for an exchange, (I just wanted a new one and to ask about wash instructions), but the lady cut me off before even asking me what happen or for my receipt, and said "no returns". Hours are 9am-9pm at the Whalers Village location. Showed up at 8:45ish maybe 8:50 on 9/10/2021 & the doors were closed & locked. We saw the lady inside and asked through the locked door, what time they close. She told us 9:00. We brought it to her attention that it was not 9:00 yet. We had previously visited and browsed the store and were returning on our last evening in Maui to purchase no less than 15 shirts. She refused to let me purchase over $200-$300 in inventory that I had already decided upon. Terrible customer service, and not a smart business move during these hard times.
