If you are visiting town, maybe this is not the best church for kids.
While visiting McKinney for Mother’s Day weekend my family and I decided to go to this beautiful church for Sunday Mass. I never imagined I’d leave a Catholic church feeling so hurt and unwelcome… especially on Mother’s Day. While in the narthex with my 2-year-old daughter who, like any toddler, was simply being herself, I was scolded by worker/volunteer who told me I was being disrespectful to everyone there by having her in the NARTHEX (not even in the nave) that “she could be heard inside”. Also my child was not the only one having a tough time, plus ANY child is welcome just as much as any adult to Scared Mass. I was shocked and saddened that a young mother trying her best could be treated with such a lack of compassion in a sacred space. Earlier, I also witnessed this same lady loudly reprimanding men for using the restroom before she had cleaned it while mass was going on. There was no grace, no patience, just hostility in a place that should offer understanding. If I weren’t already grounded in my faith, I can see how experiences like this would drive young families away. The Church should be a place where all are welcome—especially little children and the mothers doing their best to bring them closer to God. I truly hope leadership at this parish takes this seriously. And perhaps move her from hospitality ministry. May God be...
Read moreI've been attending this church for over a year because it's close to my home. My experience here has not been good. The parish is very suspicious of newcomers. I have been trying to volunteer for over a year, and they won't permit me because I spent a number of years abroad studying and teaching, so there is a gap in time where I wasn't a member of a local parish.
The parish priest, Fr. Garcia, does not take his role as a priest seriously. He doesn't answer emails and is reluctant to resolve any issues in the parish. He has his lackies in the office do everything.
I once brought a bag of my work things with me to mass because I rode my bicycle to work that day and didn't want to lose them. The area has a lot of petty crime and homeless people. I was surprised when the usher accosted me during the gospel, asking to search my bag for weapons. He told me he suspected me of being a shooter because I came alone and was carrying a bag.
Lastly, priests there discourage one on one meetings to talk about faith issues. They say they are way too tired and busy. I suspect that this is a top down issue where recent corruption in the Church has lead to it being run more like a business with assets to protect than a charitable organization. For that reason, all my money goes to charity of my choosing and none of it to...
Read moreReview of St. Michael's Church Service for Aurelio Vargas
During this difficult time for our family, we chose St. Michael's Church to provide a Catholic service for Aurelio Vargas. The service included a live stream, which was essential as Aurelio's family was in Mexico. We were informed that our donation of $400 would cover both the priest and the singer, which we had no issue with.
However, we were extremely disappointed to find that there was no audio during the live stream of the service. Given the amount we paid, we expected a seamless experience. A 45-minute service without audio is unacceptable, as it hindered our ability to connect with the ceremony properly. This is not acceptable. To the staff sorry does cute it.. unbelievable unacceptable for 400.00 donation...
We urge the church to ensure that all technical aspects are thoroughly checked and confirmed before such important services. I am asking your Chruch make this right! It is crucial to provide a flawless experience for families during their time of grief.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
