Mystic River State Reservation — Attraction in Medford

This area amazes me how close it is to the highway yet you can go to a completely different world somehow. That’s the beauty of nature. And I am silly human for saying it’s a different world. 😆 We need more areas like this, just nature, even amidst the city. I’ve come out of hibernation and I saw lots of people out walking some as if experiencing the sun for the first time, Dogs chasing geese, father taking photos of sons, people stopping to admire trees, drone flying, general basking. There’s a large instrument along the path made of pipes that you can play with mallets and the sound of it especially this time made me feel transported from confusion. The interactive feature is a great touch and think there’s a plan to include more installations! Along the Mystic River there are beautiful areas and the waterways definitely need a cleaning, like from the company the Ocean Cleanup that makes solar electric recycling barges. That would make the reservation more inviting to wildlife. Can we agree that the animals enrich our lives just in watching them exist and how harmoniously they move. 😊 Natural mystic 🎶 It’s odd how manicured some areas are. Could be a bit wilder... Such as it is though it’s inviting to all kinds of people to come relax, take refuge, play. I’ve never seen people around here so [seemingly] contentedly aimless (and sober). Of course sometimes that’s just the remedy. That’s one thing the pandemic has caused for some, the appreciation of the “simple things” which are obvious when you slow down and complex and supremely awesome. I highly recommend taking a stroll through the Reservation’s winding paths. ** Okay one more thing — there should be tributes to the indigenous tribe that populated that area: The Algonquans named the river. ** Even the state name Massachusetts is from the Algonquian language. Beautiful campus, well kept grounds, plenty of opportunities to go on the grass or stay on the paved section. Lovely waterfront, in particular I was impressed with the old willow tree by the steps down to the water. The lookout tower is also a fun way to Check out the Somerville skyline and surrounding towns. Tons of bunny rabbits, swans, squirrels, and other cute woodland creatures. This is a cute place to walk thru you can either do the whole loop around the river or just this piece right here which is still nice since you can sit off the water with your significant other as the people captured in this picture, they were so cute (picture perfect) however this is a heavy geese area so you’ll see a lot of their waste.
