I had a good experience with the Nicaraguan consulate. I drove down from Tampa and was on zero sleep for 24 hours so I was on edge to begin with but I found the staff at the consulate to be professional and helpful. I wish I could say the same for the people I was standing in line with. Please fellow Nicaraguans, stop complaining and be respectful, it'll speed things up and make the whole experience more pleasurable for everyone. The turn around time for my passport was one week( results may vary). The requirements for a passport are: Enlarged copy of your Permanent Resident Card (front and back), your old passport, birth certificate (newer than 2000), passport photos, passport application (available there), cash payment, pre postaged envelope (optional but it will speed things up)
Pro tips: Arrive early. I got there at 6:30 AM and was the tenth person in line, I was done by 9AM Have cash, nothing over a $20 or they may not take it Passport photos, copies, pre-postaged envelops are available next door and they open at 7:50AM (cash only) Be nice, the staff there is very nice if you are...
Read moreOnly open from 8am-2pm. Apparently in Nicaragua government offices only open for 6 hours...? To renew passports you are expected to be in line at 7am in front of the consulate to receive a number; one of 15 number per day apparently due to consulate regulations. If you are not there early enough you will not receive a number to renew a passport. This means this people only work a certain amount of passports per day. Very inefficient third world country practices. This is the reason Nicaragua is the second poorest country in latin America after Haiti. His honorable Mr. Consul should be ashamed to be providing this level of service and should have learned by this point how to provide a professional an efficient level of service to the Nicraragua's citizens abroad. That is why Nicaragua will always be Nicaragua, the little second poorest country in the world with its lazy...
Read moreEl peor servicio. I'm sorry to say this but Nicaragua will never get better with the horrible service they "provide". They don't give you the right info. They don't pick up the phones during business hours. They don't have a website either. Very disappointed and truly if they do not want to work. Why have a consulate in Miami.? Nobody is going to pay me the time I took off my work and the money I paid for a document that Nicaragua is not accepting because its not legal so I question if the consulate know their own policies....
