You pay $20 a car to park to go to the beach and enjoy seeing Lake Michigan. Sorry to say, you can no longer enjoy the lake since canopies of all types and sizes , with drop sides cover the beach, blocking what use to be a beautiful view. Ridiculous! Saturday, four Hispanic people, who could not speak English nearly drowned, due to rip tides. One went to the hospital. I do hope that person survived. There were no signs or warnings, in English or Spanish, informing visitors of the rip tides or the dangers if you were to go into the lake at that time. Why not?

New Buffalo does not allow canopies of any kind on their beach and alcohol is not allowed. I think Dunes State Park is the same as New Buffalo. What happened to Washington Park’s rules? Why do you, also, allow alcohol? You can do lots...

If you are in Michigan City IN, don't miss the opportunity to visit the Washington Park. Beautiful situated Marina and Sandy dunes. A nice miles long clean and steady sandy shore line. Drive using Google Maps to navigate. You will pass over a metal bridge, opens when a big boat has to pass through. May be it's opening the moment you pass over. Big parking. Restrooms available. If you are with kids, they can play anywhere. Walk on the beach or swimm when you like in the clear water. You can see a lighthouse, walk toward and see a good panorama of the beach. Sometimes hundreds of sea birds are on the beach, they make a flight and returned after 10 minutes. Take your time and...

Great place to visit year round. The beach and the park can be visited during the changing of seasons. The zoo opens during the summer months and is always a huge attraction as well. Marina and boat slips for the avide seaman are available to launch your boat for summer time fun. They have all been consistant mainstays in the city for decades. Restaurants surround the area. Just a good location to catch your breath. Plenty of parking throughout. Located just minutes from the casino boat and hotel for additional adult fun. Plenty of mall shopping for everyone is also close to the park. Fantastic sundowns reflect across the water. Dress for the weather !!! Police security...

We wanted to watch the sunset one night while we were visiting Indiana Dunes National Park and we were staying at Michigan City Campground. We'll a quick Google search told us to go to Washington Park Beach and boy did it not disappoint. Our boys all had a blast playing football on the beach while the adults enjoyed watching the beautiful sunset and listening to the sounds of the lake (which was rough while we were there but people were swimming). Just FYI, it did cost us $20 to park in the lot at the beach around 7pm and we were there for about 1.5 hours. We did all enjoy a really nice night at the beach! -Megan Kerezsi Realtor, The Kerezsi Real Estate Team #KeepingUpWithTheKerezsis

One of the very first stops on our 2,400-mile road trip from Michigan to San Diego was a lighthouse that couldn’t have been more picture-perfect. It turned out to be the ideal spot to hop out of the car, stretch our legs, and soak in a scene where the lighthouse, lake, and beach all came together in one stunning view. The fresh air, the sound of the water, and the backdrop of history made it feel like more than just a quick break—it was an experience. My daughter and I both agreed it set the tone beautifully for the adventure ahead. If your travels ever bring you nearby, this stop is absolutely worth making.

As a local my opinion might be biased lol! I think Washington Park is one of the best places ever. It has year-round amazing views of a sunset over the lake and at certain times of the year it goes right over Chicago which is in view most of the time. From the park which has ample parking You can walk to an upper deck restaurant that has amazing views of the lake or a short walk to our beautiful zoo. Also there is a splash down park for the kids to play in and of course the beach and the catwalk area is something you have to experience.
