We spent an informative hour touring the home. My wife and I were the only people on the tour, so we were able to ask lots of questions. Our guide was knowledgeable and very patient with us. Although he wasn't my favorite president, I always find that visiting their homes gives me a better understanding of the person that they became. There is no substitute for seeing the place itself, so you can get some hands-on history. This modest home, although upscale for 1950 Midland Texas, left me with a strong impression, stronger than any biography. Someone commented that there isn't a lot of history here. I disagree. There is a huge amount of history here. This home has been lovingly restored to the original condition, filled with period pieces, and appears very much like the original photos. I loved the 1950 refrigerator from Laura Bush's childhood home, which still works. I wish I had one of those-it is better than any modern fridge, with a foot operated door opener, lazy susan shelving and beautiful style. But most of all, it still works!

There aren't many residences in the country that can claim to have been home to two former Presidents and a Governor of Florida (Jeb). The house itself has been restored thoughtfully to present as though it were 1955 and that nostalgia alone is enough reason to visit even if you aren't as interested in who lived there. You will be escorted into the house by a Tour Guide who just kind of sits there and waits for you to be finished which made me feel somewhat of an inconvenience for taking a while and reading every exhibit like I did. Either way, a neat place to stop at if you have about 30 minutes and $5 per person.

You have to check in and buy tickets across the street at the “house” behind the Texas Mural. We had a guided tour and he gave great information and was able to answer all of our questions. There was information about the towns of Midland and Odessa and a wall about baseball of course. My husband, newly retired Airman, said twice, “It’s not every day you get to see the childhood home and bedroom of your Commander and Chief.” It was a neat experience.

I came on March 3rd, but they closed due to no availability of volunteers. I returned the next day at about 1:15. The guide was on break and I would have to wait 45 minutes for the next tour. So I left and returned at 3:15. Now they were filming a commercial and I had to sit and wait 25 minutes. I understand it's hard to find volunteers, but you can cut down on the volunteers needed since the home is small and could easily be a self-guided experience (just put in a couple of video cameras in some rooms). It only takes about 20 minutes to see everything. So skip the house across the street. Just station a volunteer inside the actual house to take the money and answer questions and allow people to see it at their own pace. That would be...

Closed... Stated on literature, sign and even at the door that they were open on Saturday... No one there and no one answers phone........ there was a man there trying to tour also with his daughter....He evidently knew the Museum director personally... because he tried calling their personal line.. got no response... .. wow not sure what to think about the sarcastic reply I got from the George Bush Childhood Home Museum on this site which they have now deleted. Would not want to go now at all. After research I found they only lived here a very short time of 4 yrs so really not much in the Bush history happened here. Just trying to make a buck off a very small segment of the...
