My family and I absolutely love the Children’s Museum at the Museum of the Southwest in Midland, Texas. We’ve visited on both paid days and Free Sundays, and it’s always been a fantastic experience. I have a 3-year-old and a 13-year-old, and I’ve been bringing them since they were little. They both enjoy exploring the entire space, engaging with all the interactive exhibits. My youngest son had an absolute blast, and my oldest still loves it just as much. One of the highlights for us is the train shack outside, which especially captured my oldest’s attention. The staff member there was enthusiastic, taking the time to play “I Spy” with the kids, which truly enhanced our experience.
The staff is friendly, and the museum is always clean, making it a comfortable and welcoming environment for families. For adults, the art displays are stunning. Every time we visit, there’s something new, and the exhibits never fail to amaze. Even my kids love to engage with the art and statues, which is wonderful to see. We always make sure to visit the planetarium building too, it’s a must! I’m so thankful that Midland, Texas, has such enriching places like this for our kids to enjoy and learn. We will continue to make this a family tradition for...
Read moreUPDATE Dec 2024:We came back for another visit and well worth it. Visited the planetarium this time along with the Turner house with new showings. Be sure to stop by. Posted some new photos of art exhibits. 2022: This was a real treat for us. We were looking for something to do in-between evening visits with relatives over the weekend. The Turner house built back in the 1930s lets you know how those with the bucks built a large house. The interior furnishings are gone replaced by the art and details about the Turner family (twice Kentucky Derby winner for one thing). There are separate buildings for the kids and be sure to visit the scale model trains running in the depot. On Sat until noon there is a separate vendor...
Read moreThe newly remodeled art gallery is really impressive. It houses some very unique and beautiful pieces. I was especially interested by the "horizon scape" of which only a small 8-foot section of the whole 75 is on display.
There's also a fun kids museum with indoor mini-golf and lots of fun play rooms like a pretend grocery store and a be-the-weather-forecaster room. Great for younger kids!
Also on the grounds is a Planetarium with a 3D projector. My kids went to a 3D showing and can't stop talking about it.
My wife joined as a member so we can go anytime, other wise the admission is very reasonable. All three attractions are covered in the price:
$5 for adults and young adults age 12 and above $3 for children ages 3 to 11, seniors over the age of 65 and active military personnel Children ages 2 and...
