I first discovered the Como Barbershop when I was in graduate school (I lived fairly close during my first year). Pete owned the shop at that time and he had a talent for treating every client like they were an old friend. You went there and got some great stories, funny jokes, and a proper haircut. That was back in 1998, and time marched on, as it has a tendency to do. One day I walked in and Craig had just joined the shop. There was a group of guys waiting for Pete to cut their hair and Craig was sitting there waiting for someone to sit in his chair. I took that opportunity to get to a haircut from the "new guy". I knew he would do a good job, after all, Pete had hired him. Pete had never let me down. From that point on, Craig became my primary barber in the shop and haircuts with Pete became less frequent. This was no slight to Pete, he is a great barber. His final act to all his loyal clients was to pass the torch to next generation. He succeeded mightily.
I can't always get into the shop because my schedule gets hectic and I don't live in the neighborhood anymore, but every time I return, I am reminded of what the true barber experience should be. There has been a barbershop in this location for over 100 years and it is going to continue under Craig's guidance. Do yourself a favor and get your haircut here. Even if there is a wait, do it. You'll hear great stories, engage in great conversation, laugh at a few jokes and get a great haircut. It is probably the best barber experience in the Twin Cities.
I almost forgot.....get your...
Read moreThey advertise online on their website that they close at noon on Saturdays, but I have shown up for two weeks in a row at 11.30 am only to be turned away because they were closed the day. Close times in all other businesses reflect the latest a customer can walk in, not when employees think they should be done for the day.
Another thing that I don't like about this barbershop is that they don't accept credit cards. So their customers are unable to take advantage of benefits that come with paying with their credit cards. I am not talking cash back etc. I am talking consumer law.
Finally, I used to get my haircuts here a lot. What I liked about this place was that they would take their time and pay attention to detail. Some their new guys now though don't. Last time I was at Craig's Como Barber shop one of the new guys spent 10-12 minutes max giving me a haircut. If I wanted a 10-12 minute haircut I would have gone to...
Read moreAn amazing experience! It took a couple tries to find a time when they weren't busy, but it was entirely worth it. As someone with little-to-no experience maintaining short hair, I went in, told them generally what I was looking for, and they delivered. My cut was done by Craig, who asked along the way about exactly what I wanted, and worked with me to create a great cut! The cut isn't something that happens quickly - it took at least 45 minutes - but this is because they take their time to make it perfect. This is honestly the best I've ever looked, and at a reasonable price. I'll definitely be going back! Not only was the cut incredible, Craig and the other barbers were welcoming and friendly! A great place that I'll be recommending to anyone looking for a barbershop.
As a side note, they only take cash or check, but there are two ATM's nearby and the shop is willing to let you go get the...
