The Case of the MacBook Pro Not Charging. Well, very happy to hear back within 48 hours that laptop was ready, but a tad disappointed about the indeterminate diagnosis in that the exact nature of the problem wasn't clear since the charger and charging cord of mine weren't checked out, but it appeared that the laptop needed an "SMC reset" (see below). For a laptop not charging , it should be standard protocol to check the charging cord and charger when checking the laptop. I brought in all three but the sign-in tech said the charger and cord weren't needed. Prior to arrival at the store, I had googled 'charger not working on my MacBook Pro' after noticing the battery was draining fast because it wasn't recharging. I tried a different cord and charger as well without luck. Google AI directed me to take the laptop to a computer store. Today, after reviewing the notes by the evaluating tech, the tech at the front desk said it was uncertain what the exact problem was but thinks that a reset alone fixed the problem as the laptop was charging again. Upon return home, I learned from Apple Support that a Mac a 'hard re-set' is actually called a SMC reset, short for System Management Controller and how that is performed varies whether you have an Apple Silicon chip or an Intel chip in your Mac. Happy to report that Charger and cord both work now. Apple Support states that for a laptop with an Intel chip you reset the SMC by holding down the SHIFT, CONTROL, OPTION buttons along with the POWER button for 10 seconds, then releasing all keys and pressing power button to turn on the Mac. I wonder if that could not have been easily tried by the tech who signed me in on Saturday. That alone may have taken care of the problem. Resetting the SMC can possibly cure a number of problems that the SMC controls but battery and charging is second on the list after power button not working among several other items. So, I guess everyone learned a few things today. I strongly suggest that when a customer presents with a Mac that 'does not charge' an approach of resetting the SMC be tried possibly saving customer time and money. I learned to forget googling about Apple products and from now on go straight to Apple Support about 'charger not working' and learned about the SMC and how to 'reset' the SMC. DOH. Next time I have a problem with an Apple product, I will consult Apple support. I think it's very important to share learning experiences and I hope you do that at your store among the techs. I will continue to use the store for future...
Read moreI brought in a device that was less than 6 months old (Samsung Flip 6; released June/July 2024) on which the touchscreen suddenly stopped working from one second to the next (literally, used it all morning, and the next time I flipped it open, no response). I am a strong believer that regarding damage that was not caused due to any external factors, on any electronic device that is less than one year old, there shouldn't be ANY hesitation to just replace what's broken and the manufacturer warranty should be all that's needed. However, the technician inspected my phone, and eventually found what I can only describe as a fraction of a sand corn sized cosmetic defect on the always exposed hinge of the phone (exposed by design due to it's movable nature), a place that couldn't possibly affect the touch screen, which the technician even confirmed. But that gave him reason enough to say, "sorry, that's damage and voided the manufacturer's warranty". I never dropped my phone, or exposed it to any fluids, and the location of said "damage" is in a place that, by design, is almost impossible to protect from cosmetic wear and tear, and yet the technician wasn't willing to advocate for the customer one bit and do the right thing here... Guess whenever you buy a Samsung product, you better put it in a glass case and don't go near it...
Note to response: That pretty much just says, "sorry... better luck next time, pal..." Not a fan of cookie-cutter-answers. Clearly, your partnership with Samsung is more important than helping a customer in need that is left...
Read moreWent in to get phone fixed after 1.5 hour wait they finished seemed all good up until I put it in my case and oh no the top half doesn’t work, proceed to go back inside they open it up figure out the problem and give it back saying that it needs a new part that they don’t have right now and to come back when they text me they get it and just put the old broken screen back on. Fast forward to me getting the text saying that I can come in I come in at about 4-4:30 they close at 7 say they aren’t sure if they can fix it before close because there was a line and just to wait till 6:45 and if they don’t have it done they can’t fix it. They were unable to fix it time which makes no sense to because they you know, texted me to come in and you would think that would have priority but nope and so having payed for a fix almost a week ago now and still unable to get one because of this I would not recommend, I’m sure they do fine work when they actually do the work but for how expensive it is I would have expected a...
