Peaceful & very informative, but can be quite crowded in the summer & on weekends. We usually go for an hour after school on a weekday. Even if you're somewhat of a local, the membership is worth it (and tax deductible). The jellyfish are magical & ancient. The sea otter: playful, surprisingly graceful, and mischievous. The octopus? Hauntingly beautiful, mystical, wise, seemingly melancholy, and elusive (you feel blessed to catch sight of an active one, stretching outside the boundaries of its niched recesses). If you need to lower your blood pressure, just watch the kelp dance and sway for ~5 minutes. For being a pioneer in environmentally responsible cuisine with their Seafood Watch program, I'm surprised the Cafe doesn't offer much plant-based options (even the veggie burger bun isn't vegan). I reckon we all have some aspect in our lives that needs improving, even the famed Monterey Bay Aquarium. You can pack a picnic, store it in a locker, come outside for a lunch break, a re-enter with a stamped hand, at least. For a fun film connection, watch my favorite Star Trek Movie: Star Trek IV, which was filmed there, back when it was newly built. I wouldn't be at all surprised if alien life forms spoke to Humpback whales. But that's a whole other conversation, for another time.

The last time that we were out here, correction the last time that my wife and two daughters were here our daughters were really little. Time has gone by so quickly that in the blink of an eye, our daughters grew up, and both graduated from high school. I have never been so proud of both of them. My oldest daughter ended up getting married to a Marine, and shortly after they both moved to Hawaii Our youngest daughter went to college and graduated from college. These past 3 years have been the hardest for all of us, I had the hardest of all things happen. The last time we were here was right after COVID-19, and saying goodbye to my mom was the hardest thing, the last time we made this trip was with her and when my girls were young. I know she is watching over us, with new things to come brings us to new beginnings because we get to share this with our 2-year-old grandson. As I said time has gone by so quickly, and I know she is physically not here to see my grandson grow up but I know she is watching over us. In memory of my mom MARTH O. LIMA I LOVE YOU MOM, YOUR MIJO

This is an incredible aquarium. A few notes: -food is expensive, I recommend bringing your own. -there is LOTS to see. You’ll want a bare minimum of 3 hours here, but you can easily spend the whole day. -there is an excellent lounge for nursing mothers, tucked back near the restrooms past the Open Sea exhibit. -there are filtered water bottle filling stations in multiple places. -on that subject, don’t miss the Open Sea feeding!! The “eruption” of a massive school of sparkling sardines is amazing. -most days, you can see wild otters from the outdoor balconies with the telescopes. Ask a volunteer to help you find otters and they’ll point the telescope for you. -take a second to plan for parking before coming. There are less expensive metered parking options, and very expensive parking garages. -the facility is very clean, and the employees are friendly and helpful.

Fantastic place!!! Absolutely love it here! We visit almost everytime we are in the bay area. This is a fantastic family friendly place. So much to see and has many interactive areas the kids love to spend long periods at. The aquarium isnt cheap, but have to remember that it goes back into the aquarium and marine life in the area. This is completely wheelchair accessible. This is also sensory friendly for the most part. Be advised of busy times. The aquarium itself isnt loud, but guests can be. Even in off season (not summers or holidays) the weekends are pretty busy. Definitely worth the money. I have never had a bad experience here. The staff are polite and helpful and all of the activities are amazing! Would suggest to anyone! Definite must for kids! Especially those who love to learn!

The Monterey Bay Aquarium is a must visit location for anyone in the area even if you only have an impulsive interest in marine life. Despite its relatively small size you'll probably find yourself lost and overwhelmed by the sheer number and variety of aquatic creatures on display. Their exhibits are not only meant to wow you, but they intend to educate as well: helping inform the populace about the behavior of the animals they have on display as well as actively raise awareness about conservation efforts. I highly recommend buying a ticket, especially with kids, and while the price is steep, it would take you at least 4 hours to walk around the aquarium and truly absorb everything it has to offer minimum. It also has a cafeteria with food that far out classes its outward appearance.

A really great place to bring the family for a fun and educational experience. You can see most of the aquarium in a few hours, or sign up for a guided tour if you don't want to miss anything. Recommend that you get all day parking in one of the lots nearby that let you in and out an unlimited amount of times for the day. The aquarium is spread out so that there's kid activities in multiple areas like touching pools, petting the stingrays, and different play areas combined with the exhibits. The year pass is worth it if you're going at least twice in one year. The line isn't too bad before entering, around 10-15min wait.
