EDIT 7/2024 We were visiting Monterey for several nights and if course our daughter (and I) had to visit the 'pirate ride' again. This time, we bought annual passes for the three of us. Boy, was it worth it! You basically get your money's worth in two rides. If you don't want to sit through the instructional video or elevator ride, they will let you pass through straight to the shooting part. We rode it four times in one day, and our daughter insisted doing it one more time right before our drive home. If you visit Monterey a few times a year like we do, it's definitely worth it. Staff are still enthusiastic and very good at explaining the ride to people who walk by.and who knew Monterey had its very own pirate?? What a wonderful addition to historic Cannery Row. P.S. Don't let the camera catch you off guard! **** Imagine our surprise when we were visiting our favorite weekend getaway destination and hearing a pirate calling as we walked through the plaza between Fish Hopper and Bubba Gump. We had to go see what the fuss was about and sure enough, we were greeted by a pretty well done pirate animatronic and some pretty cool sets. An employee greeted us as we walked up to learn more. She did a great job telling us about the ride, how it worked, and what to expect. Turns out, it was a soft opening weekend and they were offering free power-up tokens. My husband, 5 year old daughter, and myself all decided to give it a try (okay, I'll admit that I was the most excited--I love pirates). All of the staff was great, and the ride was very well done. I was a little worried that our 5 year old daughter would be scared but she loved it. This is a great addition to Cannery Row. I can see where it could get a little pricey for larger families but being a family of 3, it was well worth it. We would do it again on our next visit.

As a local I can appreciate something new being placed at this very touristy location. It's nice to see the improvements and there is lots of attention to detail in the overall presentation of the ride experience. After purchasing the tickets (we bought the experience with the extra $5 boost) we were told to go downstairs. The whole thing is about 20 minutes long from beginning to end. The rules are explained to you via video screen and also by the staff member guiding you onto the elevator to the "caverns", and to the ride cart. This is where the interactive portion starts. The ride itself lasts maybe 5 minutes which is virtual target practice for points. Everyone in the cart gets to shoot at stuff. Lots of things happening, so it was a tad overwhelming. It was fun for my 9 year old. He had a good time which is what I was hoping for. He doesn't have the patience for long lines in an amusement park setting so this was perfect with no wait when we showed up during lunch time. We really enjoyed the shooting booth after exiting the main ride. I assume it's part of the Treasure Hunt. I would ask the owner of this establishment to establish a price for locals. We'd come more often, but otherwise this is priced too high, IMO. Hence the 4 stars.

MUST DO, at least once. Cost $40 for two adults. It is unlimited rides & you can buy power up tokens to make things more colorful. We didn't do the power up coins. This was so fun! As a full grown adult it made me feel like a kid for like 20 minutes. Don't think to hard just enjoy the silly story, the fake elevator ride & the animatronics. The ride whippes you around a little, it's dark-ish, you might get splashed a few drops of water (we got hit with two little drops) & you try to shoot as much of the targets and gold as you can. Your points are being counted for you on your cart. We were seeing who could get more, POINTER (Just shoot as much as you can & point at everything on the screens) lol 😆 😊 ENJOY THIS RIDE, be a kid for a few minutes. There were no lines when we arrived, it took a total of 24 minutes from pay to walking out. They stamp your wrist so you can return all day. Worthless the cost. Staff were in character, made the experience very fun & enjoyable. THANK YOU! Located right next to Bubba Gump Shrimp restaurant on Cannery Row.

We Love Treasure Hunt: The Ride! This ride takes over the space that was the horribly unkept “John Steinbeck wax museum” and thank god for that. The ride brings you into its environment and has a lot of kitschy fun without being cheesy. Every part of this ride is well thought out and is extremely fun.

We took the ultra pass or the all day pass, and seriously was worth it. We kept going back on to challenge each other’s scores, and also just have fun. Power up for more fun!

The ride is an exciting cross between a dark ride and video game. While you shoot the treasure you meet up with a pirate ghost, a kraken, skeletons and a man and his mule! While that sounds too scary for younger ones, the ride is fast and interactive so they can stay busy during the ride. Note to parents: if you have easily scared children as to bypass the “elevator” and you should be fine. Though the elevator portion is one of the funniest parts of the ride, it may be too intense for younger riders.

The staff was informative and fun. They were a part of the adventure too. Kudos for having a staff that likes to have fun!

I do wish they had merch. Not too much, but like a shirt or shot glass or a frame. But that really is the only down side.

Great way to mix up your Cannery Row experience. Go to the aquarium, have lunch, ride this ride over and over.

Five stars!!!! All the way!!! Can’t wait...
