Good to see a cross-section of characters through the history of Monterrey. Would be great to have a smartphone-based audio narration that a person could listen to that describes the people depicted in the monument. The area is a nice place to sit and enjoy the sunshine and see the bay.

Die Cannery Row ist eine, kaum 1 Meile lange, Straße. Liegt direkt am Meer und ist auf Touristen ausgelegt. Teilweise schon etwas heruntergekommen. Eine Art Fischerdorfstraße (durch die ehemaligen Ölsardinenfabriken) mit Dorfmitte, Strandpromenade, den typischen Restaurants, haufenweise Souvenirläden, einem Pendleton Store und dem absolut empfehlenswerten Aquarium. Das Touristenviertel beschränkt sich eigentlich fast nur auf diese Straße, davor ist das Meer und dahinter kommen gleich Hotels und dann Wohnviertel. Am besten parkt man in einem der Parkhäuser.

I recently returned from a South Carolina to California trip and among the places I had wonderful visits to were the LBJ Ranch, Monument Valley, the south rim of the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, the Golden Gate Bridge and the site of my favorite John Steinbeck novels - "Cannery Row" and its sequel (my favorite novel ever) "Sweet Thursday." Cannery row here in Monterey, CA, turned out to be as I expected - and I was not disappointed! My two favorite stops were Lee Chong's grocery (still standing and open for business) and this monument to John Steinbeck. An unforgettable...
