After staying for two nights and preparing to write a Google review, I could not believe someone wrote a one star review. I think it’s all about expectations. To ding a B&B for not having an elevator shows an unreasonable expectation because I’ve never seen an elevator in a B&B. Our experience was wonderful. Rick and Susanne are great hosts and willing to engage in conversation should you desire. This is a B&B though and as typical os such a business, each room will be different. We carefully read the room descriptions and chose a stand alone room called the Tumtum Tree Cottage. It was perfect for us because it has a separate sitting room with a small kitchenette. The bathroom was wonderful. It has gorgeous onyx subway tile. The room isn’t attached to the main house so there is no noise from any other guests. The cottage has a private deck which can be the perfect location to relax with the wine and snacks provided by the Inn beginning at 5pm. Each of the two nights we stayed we took advantage of the wine and hors d'oeuvres, talked with other guests and generally enjoyed ourselves. The Inn is a short, but steep, walk from Cannery Row. I’m almost 70 and had no trouble with the walk. Rick & Susanne will call and make meal reservations for you and depending upon the restaurant you may get a card to exchange for a free appetizer. We recommend the Fish Hopper by the way. Excellent food, service and views. The Inn has a small parking lot but if you are driving a low slung car you may bottom out so enter and exit at an angle. There is street parking also. It may be some time before we make it back to Monterey from the east coast but if we find ourselves in he Monterey area again we will stay at the Inn again. Before you book make sure you carefully read the room descriptions. There is a room that has a dedicated bathroom but it’s down the hall. If you want to stay for less money it may be for you. If you want absolute privacy and quiet choose the Tumtum...
Read moreMy fiancé and I were coming to stay in Monterey for a few days, so blessed and So lucky to have been able to find this gem of a location.
We had gotten to the inn late, and from the moment we walked in it was absolutely magical. Full of warmth, so dreamy, and so inviting. Gentle jazz was playing and gave such a beautiful and warm ambiance. I fell in love with the place.
The inn is in a good spot in town, I'd say right in the middle which was very convenient for us.
Suzanne was such a phenomenal host and so friendly and it was so nice to have her greet and welcome us in the morning, she was extremely helpful on giving us guidance and insight on things to do around the area and history of Monterey, as well as just being very easy to talk too.
The food was great, I am celiacs and they were able to accommodate me which was wonderful. Good coffee and the special house made juice in the morning was always something we looked forward too. We liked the jabber juice so much we tried to make it ourselves when we got back into la. Also a big shoutout to the women working in the kitchen and helping around the inn. They were all so friendly and kind.
We stayed in the Tulgey room which was so wonderful. It's small but extremely cozy and inviting. It has a beautiful view of the ocean and the bathroom was gorgeous. My only concern was that the water has kind of a heavy smell, but I understand the building is old and it's likely the pipes are too. Didn't bother us too much.
There's plenty to look at in the inn, from inside and out and we were absolutely so blessed to have such a wonderful place to stay. My only wish is that we could have stayed longer. If we can get back in the area sometime soon, we'll definitely be coming back to Jabberwock inn.
Thank you for such a...
Read moreMy wife & three international friends stayed two comfortable & relaxing & memorable nights @ Jabberwock Inn in late June. The property inside & out was beautiful, and filled with pleasant surprises at every turn of a corner (including a cameo appearance of a neighborhood Black-tailed doe in the rear garden). The Inn location is walking distance from Cannery Row, and there is a selection of lunch & dinner restaurants within a 10-minute stroll (many more within a short drive). The Through the Looking Glass-inspired breakfasts have got the guests covered for morning nourishment & delight, and there are complimentary snacks & beverages available throughout the day if you're just relaxing at The Inn. We stayed in the 2nd floor Brillig Room, with views of Monterey Bay (including sunrises) and a queen bed and an ensuite shower and a gas fireplace (surprisingly handy even in June). The personal service was excellent throughout our stay; we were greeted & given an informative house tour by the proprietor's wife Suzanne, served freshly made & delicious breakfast items by their staff (I could've consumed a gallon of their signature 'Jabberjuice'), coordinated daily wine & hors d’oeuvres attendance with the very professional daughter of the innkeepers, and check out was a breeze courtesy of the proprietor Rick. Jabberwock is a team effort, and they are a definitely a winning team.||Our short stay at Jabberwock Inn was as magical as the property's themes of Lewis Carroll's Jabberwocky & Alice in Wonderland. We would definitely recommend that adult travelers to Monterey skip the pricey local hotels, and instead get their money's worth of comfort & relaxation & hospitality & delicious food at The Inn on Laine Street. Once you're inside, you may never...
