While on vacation in OBX, my teen was looking for something more than beach and putt-putt. We called and spoke with FFAP and they couldn't have been nicer over the phone and answered all of my questions.
After filling out the reservation online (easy-peasy) we booked a time. Upon arrival, we were greeted by friendly, smiling faces, and they guided us through setting up equipment, answering questions about the course, and allaying any fears about safety.
With a noon appointment and 95° heat, water was essential. FFAP had a bottle filling station (contact-less for COVID concerns). The equipment was also very clean, dry, and we were assured equipment is cleaned after every use (to avoid "sharing germs"). Again, everything met with how we interpret CDC guidelines during these uncertain times.
My teen met their guide (Dolan) who was very nice and made great small talk to ease the anxiety and anticipation of high-wire obstacles. The central tower made it easy for my kid to take a water break. FFAP gives you two-hour windows, so your child (or adult) can take a break from the heat and exercise.
My child ended up having concerns with the third level, but I think that was because she was alone in her group, so no rest between obstacles waiting on others. She slowed her pace, regrouped and finished all of the levels. Her feeling of pride is beaming now, having over come these obstacles and challenges. Also, for non-adventurers, there is a nice pier and shaded area, with the water station nearby to rest and observe.
I would say FFAP in Nags Head is a great place for anyone who is looking for a challenge. My teen is feeling more confident in what they can accomplish. We will look to return in the coming summers as we...

First, the staff is very attentive every step of the way. From check in to briefing to navigating the courses and offering tips/advice while you’re on course.
They take safety very seriously, and we felt that not only from our interactions with team members, but when we were on the courses. All of the obstacles were well maintained and secure, which made us feel even safer.
The way the courses are set up, the higher up you go, the more difficult the obstacles. My recommendation is (even though you might want to skip to the harder obstacles) start at the easiest and work your way up. The reason is that they have put a lot of thought into the design, and you build skills at each level that come back to help you when you get into the more difficult sections.
So, back to the amazing team. . .
While on a more difficult part of the course, my Apple Watch came off and fell down into the swampy, grassy area below the courses. I didn’t realize this until I was coming off of the course.
The team helped me look for my watch, and even provided me with mud boots to go through the more swampy areas. However, we were unsuccessful in finding my watch.
Almost a month later, I got a call from Amanda, an FFAP staff member. They found my Apple Watch! I was just blown away that they even found it, and even more blown away that they contacted me and mailed it back to me.
I am sure that this is not that uncommon, and it just demonstrates the absolute integrity this organization has.
We will be patronizing this Adventure Park every single time we go...
Read moreThis place. Omg guys this place. I am terrified of heights, I did this two days in a row, and I got to the highest point the second time around (I didn't do category 5 only category 4 but you know what. I did the thing, and it's just as high up as category 5). It's SO MUCH FREAKING FUN!!!!! And let me tell you, these guides are so nice! They joke with you, yell out tips if your stuck (and maybe scared lol), like they do everything possible to make your experience the best it can be! I legit only came back for a second day because the first time was so much fun. The only downside? There was one group of really obnoxious kids that were making snarky comments about me and my friends because they were impatient and racing through the course (im talking running top speed over obstacles to set time records) and, well, we are all late 20s to early 30s so, not quite as nimble as we used to be lol but that's the kids' fault, not the adventure park's. Like maybe wait until the course is unobstructed to run through that level. The course itself is wonderful fun, the guides are the freaking nicest and most helpful humans, the price is so legit worth it, the setting is beautiful, like seriously if you like jungle gyms and playgrounds and obstacle courses and American ninja warrior, this is...
