2 stars – Beautiful store, but one employee ruins the experience
The store itself is lovely. The ladies working there were professional, warm, and extremely helpful. However, I’m rating it two stars instead of five because of one individual—Kevin—whose behavior was condescending, unnecessarily aggressive, and completely out of place in a hospitality setting.
While attempting to purchase a bottle of wine (after already enjoying a glass in the store), I presented my valid government-issued ID. Kevin then demanded that I loudly state my age aloud at the register, even though he was holding my ID and could clearly verify it. This wasn’t about compliance—it felt like a public challenge or power play.
When I expressed that I found the request inappropriate and invasive, he doubled down with a dismissive attitude. His overall demeanor was rude, controlling, and dismissive, both toward me and others in line.
On top of that, he made snide remarks about cleaning up olive oil earlier—telling customers not to “make any mess,” which only added to the uncomfortable tone he sets.
This is not how you treat guests, especially in a space that markets itself as upscale and welcoming. I returned the wine and left.
I sincerely hope management addresses Kevin’s conduct. Because while the environment is beautiful, no one wants to spend money where...
Read moreVery disappointed in the customer service that we “received” today. For years we have always stopped in to grab a draft in the back while we shop the store. Today our family stood at the bar while the older guy from previous years (I am assuming the manager/owner) worked on a tap. There was never any acknowledgment that we were in the store, and when he was done working he walked back up front without a word. There was also a lady who appeared to be working the back that never acknowledged us. We were probably standing at the bar for 8-10 minutes, obviously ready to order. Our group typically has a $100-$150 tab that the staff was not interested in today. We took the hint and left the store disappointed. Thankfully Swells’a brewing is right down the road and they were happy to accommodate us. It will be our last experience in Outer Banks Olive. For your olive oil and vinegar needs try Ella’s - much better...
Read moreWhile the products are wonderful, the management is unprofessional. An obviously undertrained (management's fault) senior woman employee was talked down to in a very condescending manner with hints of annoyance by the man that appeared to be in charge in front of 4 customers, 2 of which appeared to be friends of his as they were chatting with him as they sat at the bar drinking beer. The senior was trying to make a latte which she clearly was not taught how to do. Had I been her, he'd have been wearing the latte! Will never go back to the Nags Head location; perhaps the other location(s) are...
