So the game of golf went well, this review is strictly for the rude staff in the clubhouse. Older woman in a Winnie the Pooh sweatshirt specifically..after golf our son went to play a claw machine they have in the clubhouse. It said 4 quarters to play, so I handed my son 4 quarters which he put in the machine. It didn’t work. Before I could even go over and ask, the older woman came over and said, “it costs $1 to play”, to which I told her my son had put 4 quarters in the machine already. She then said, “no, he only put 2 in” very rude and nastily. I assured her I handed him 4 quarters that he put into the machine. She walked away, shaking her head in disbelief, returning with 2 additional quarters I assume to show me he only put 2 in, and GUESS WHAT!? After she put them in, it still didn’t work. She then mumbled and said, “wow and we just had that machine fixed”. So she knew the machine was previously broken, and accused me, a grown adult, of letting my son short the machine..She then proceeded to come over with a $1 bill and the machine started working. Very upsetting that such horrible customer service ruined our experience. We planned on returning this week when more family comes into town, but this experience has turned us off. Way too many other golf courses in the area for families to have it acceptable for staff to treat paying customers like that. No apology for being wrong, nothing. In a town where they depend on tourists for jobs to keep their economy afloat. If she doesn’t want to be in customer service, she should take her cartoon jacket to the retirement home and they should hire staff with friendly personalities. Would give zero...
Read moreI am giving this spot a 2, instead of a 1, because the owners keep the place looking nice. Outside of that, if you have children, I would suggest you go to any of the other well-maintained courses while at the OBX. My child loves mini golf so we frequent the lovely mini golf courses there are on the OBX. We’ve been to Mutiny Bay several times because we like variety but, this most recent visit, will be our last. This establishment is owned by either an older couple or a pair of older siblings. While the course is very nice, they take turns making the experience as unpleasant as possible for patrons with children. Between the negative admonishments by the old lady when a child wants to look at their “fancy golf balls” ($2.50 balls that catch a child’s eye but clearly should never be touched with the way the old lady rudely talks to children - why do you sell them then? 🤦♀️) and the way the old lady walks around the course and randomly stares when there appears to be a lull in business (weird), it’s very clear children are not welcome. If you’re going on a date, you’ll love it. If you have kids though, go to the Dino spot next door, Paradise (which has Go-Karts), Professor Hacker’s or, literally anywhere else. I’ve brought my child several times and keep thinking she’ll either recognize us or just be kind to the kiddos that want to look at the fun stuff she sells. It’s the constant pattern of an overall mean attitude to families with young kids that has made me feel the need to finally write a review...
Read moreI’m not one to leave a bad review but the experience at this mini golf place really left a bad taste in my mouth. My party and I had a called this place in advance to make sure they were open till 10 because of Memorial Day and the woman who answered the phone said they were so we arrived at 905pm, on the course by 910. They had separated us into two groups which was fine but we had only wanted to play a few and didn’t care about finishing, so we decided to chat and play, there was no one in front or in back of us waiting to play. This woman came out at 930 on the dot and berated us for playing as a group, saying we have to be finished by 10pm and that playing as a group is slowing us down. The way she said it and her attitude towards us was disrespectful and honestly killed the whole mini golf experience. We separated and ended up being held up by two families that we caught up to.
The worst part there was a couple that had been let in at 943. Really think they’ll be done right at 10 as well?
At 959 we left the facility and we were going to tell her face to face about how she ruined our experience but the facility was closed up, with multiple families and couples still playing.
So thank you Mutiny Bay for the worst experience and staff...
